am surprised that SB offer better work life over CS. The sense I got from comments in this forum is that CS instructs SB execute. Anyway, your basic pay progress really fast. Congrats!

It depends on which SB vs ministry. Where I was at mx11 as a mgr, work not distributed n headcount not actively replaced, so was working 14hr days n my baby was very young then. So I chose to downgrade to mx12 equivalent post in SB. The first yr was honeymoon. But after that still back to the same...cause promoted again to mgr. But at the very least the SB I m in prides itself for work life balance, so during peak project time I work like dog, but once off peak I knock off abt 7pm latest wo bringing home any work. The only thing is I'm working with an AD who's very dumb and selfish, so when it comes to ranking, I've to fight for my own rights and get bigger bosses to help give fair assessment. Thankfully I work for several different bosses on projects. My own dir knows his AD not performing but still keep him for political reasons. Anyway the dir also not liked by anyone else in snr mgt. So I think I should transfer dept at a good time.

That is the wisest move. No matter how good you are, if your bosses does not have the charisma, it will be hard for him/her to fight for your promotion. Learnt that the hard way.

i am also in a similar situation as you.. need to fight for myself.... may i know are you dealing with projects or IT-related work? Your working hours came as a surprise as CS/SB has often been touted as a place with work-life balance.

When I was in ministry,I was handling a mix of IT n other proj. But not IT trained,so am very slow at picking up. Daytime meetings, nighttime update website n answer customer queries. Cause service std must be kept but most of my day is outside, bo pian. Only 3 headcount in the unit, but 2 vacancies! Took 9 mths to fill just one of them.

Got fed up n I did a total switch in job nature n joined SB. Now I do more paper writing, event mgt, n just accept whatever arrows come from whichever direction. Fight for ourselves is very tiring (yes yes I m kpkb, I know) and no guarantee will win cause once mgt change, anything can happen. Eg last yr A, this yr I m prepared to be C already.

Default Private or Govt

Hi! I'm deciding between two offers:

Background: 4.5 years exp in private. Local uni (pass with merit). Female. Current salary 4k per month. Accountant trained.

1. Government (Stat board) - Internal audit role
They offered 4.4k with downgrade from assistant manager to principal executive due to lack of audit exp.
Have their own grading bands instead of the MX scheme. They use E5 for principal executive and M1 for assistant manager.

2. Private (REIT) - Accounting role
Offered 4.6k. High chance of OT.

Bonus potential for both is similar. Which one should I take?

In addition to the above question, please advise if its better to pursue a career in internal audit or pure accounting.

Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Wouldn't the default grading the following year after promotion be "C"? You must be super duper good to get "A" in 2012.

I was promoted in 2011 July, then got B for Fy11. Fy12 then got A and got promoted. It's not default C after promo... In fact every time after promo I'd been continuing with B.
