mainly for the work life balance so that can spend more time with the kids.
believe my pay now can qualify for minimally a lateral transfer to DD position in govt. thing is, if i started out in public sector, i won't draw what i think is the similar pay at my age now.

2011 Civil Service Salary Range
Job grade: MX9 (Superscale)
Job title: Deputy Director, Director
Pay scale: S$10,580 – S$14,550 / S$14,551 – S$16,540
Job grade: MX10
Job title: Assistant Director, Deputy Director
Pay scale: S$6,350 – S$9,050 / S$9,051 – S$10,400

DD min pay is 6k. the AD, DD just means possible designations

The DDs in my department earn around 8K. But they typically work for a few years in the office before becoming DDs. Not parachuted in.

I am also curious how much pay increase % can TS expect to ask for if jumping into a govt from pte?

How much and at what $? It depends on relevancy as well and whether there is a fit in job scope. If no, you start at 0.
