Similar incidents have happened in my department but my bosses and HR have protected their staff. So don't worry.

You don't need PS' approval to change CEP. Ds and DDs propose and it is generally approved by DS/CE. Ranking is highly competitive, with grade quotas. If police contacts your bosses, it won't help.

Not true. I work in one of the Ministries with uniform groups (not hard to guess which one). Unless it has been proven that the officer is guilty, the organisation will not take any actions. And from the police's perspective, it is not part of the standard protocol to write to government agency or statutory board for each incident.
If you think about it, it takes a chain of events for you to face any negative consequence. Firstly, the police must write to the organisation. Secondly, your boss receives it and change his/her impression of you because of that. Thirdly, your boss decides to punish you by downgrading your CEP.
Nothing has happened thus far right?

Maybe that guy was stupid enough to confess to his boss? He's already stupid enough to post this on the internet.

Nope, I have not 'stupidly' informed my boss. Posted it here because I hope to get some views/opinions from people who work in the civil service, hopefully those from HR.
Nothing had happened yet because the police is still processing the case. They said to wait for their decision. Maybe they got sidetracked by the Kovan murder case. It's the same division.
Thanks for the views everyone.
