Hi,
May I ask what exactly does the civil service consider as 'scholars'?
I'm under the SMU scholars programme and is expecting to graduate in 2013 with Summa cum laude.
Will I be placed on a lower scheme from so called 'returning scholars', some of whom I know are graduating only with a pass degree
thanks!

SMU grads are not scholars. Even those on local scholarships aren't considered the true scholars. Fact.

he is answering your question and you are saying that his post serve no purpose?
your SMU scholars programme with Summa cum laude is definitely an advantage compared to other fresh grads applying to the organisation.
those 'returning scholars' that you spoke of are chosen not only based on their academic results but also other aspects such as leadership skills.
moreover, these 'returning scholars' are likely to be bonded to the govt agency for a few years, unlike you who has no commitment and may leave the agency any time.
it only makes sense to give them more opportunities.
and I am not even talking about prestigious PSC scholars whom are well taken care of by PSC.

Your first class honours will put u in good stead. But that does not make u a govt scholar. Only those whom are sponsored by the govt are considered scholars. Nevertheless, u can still make a mark for yourself if u perform well. But i think it is pointless to keep comparing all the nitty gritty stuff.... e.g. non-scholar with first class vs scholar with 2nd class.... and so forth. These are realities in the civil service.

Anyone knows how is the salary like after 5 yrs and beyond?
