noticed that stat boards love to hire on contract basis. So what happens after the contract ends? The staff gets kicked out? And is there any difference between perm and contract staff in terms of pay and other benefits?

most will receive the perm scheme after 1 year or when the contract end, the benefit is the same

Thanks for the reply.

So this contract period is like a 'probation'? Or will there be a separate probation period?

Within the Public Service is the Civil Service, comprising more than 76,000 officers working in the Ministries and Organs of state. They work in various schemes of service, including the Administrative Service, legal, education, police, civil defence as well as other generic schemes. Statutory boards (such as HDB, CPF Board, IRAS, etc) have their own recruitment and human resource management policies. They are legally distinct and independent employers from the Civil Service".

Just imagine Singapore Airlines as Civil Service (parent company) and its subsidiaries Silk Air (fully owned) and Tiger Airways (partially owned) as Statutory Boards... same concept... there's a natural tendency that the parent company has a higher profile than its subsidiaries

There is also a tendency to assume that by joining a Stat Board (which is supposed to be more efficient than a Ministry), you have a strong interest in what they do. For example, it's typical to stereotype those who join Singapore Sports Council as someone who like sports a lot...

I started work in a Stat Board and then moved to a Ministry. In terms of remuneration, I'd say it's fairly comparable, +/- 10-15% depending on many factors such as experience, relevance, qualification, etc... stayed 2 years in Stat Board and 5 years in Ministry... can tell which one I prefer
thanks for the detailed explanation but you haven't mentioned how much will a manager earn in ComChest (on average)

yes i'm aware of your question but you should be able to tell by now if you had read the past pages of this thread... ministry and stat boards are somewhat comparable... +/- 10-15%... if you're really lazy to read them, then my lazy answer to you is $3000-$4000/mth.

what class of honours do you get?

-1st class
-2nd upper
-2nd lower ??

I suppose you born in 1983 , working close to 4 years of exp.

2008, MX13>>>$3300
2009, MX??>>>$XXXX
2010, MX??>>>$XXXX
2011, MX??>>>$XXXX
2012, MX??>>>$4400

Can you please fill in the ?? and the XXXX,

Is the $4400 you had mention, is that the salary after this april merit increment?

I also noted that in Feb civil servant at your grade are given +10% salary adjustment

Are you a C grader or B grader?

If you annual salary = 16 months (included AWS/AVC/PB) = 16 x 4400 = 70400..

anyway you have done better than me working in GLC as an engineer, I am from 1982, grad in 2007 male, 2nd lower

2007july = 2.9k
2012july = approx $3842<<yes this is the salary after 5 years exp with 1 promotion.

you got 1 year advantage than me, and your salary is about $600 more
