I beg to differ. If you compare to those higher earners outside of CS, obviously not comparable. On general average, CS and PS actually better or at least on par. MX10 annual package is around 200+/- annual package which is quite decent. Even at MX11 where most CS/PS ends atannual is around 150k +/- which falls under around top 10% in Singapore.

i guess PS is paying us about the mean salary, which is much much higher than the medium salary in SG, given the top (CEO) heavy kind of society we have.

Mx10 cannot reach 200k pa lah! That’s for mx9. It’s more like 180k provided u can reach the ceiling in the revised scale. Mx11a can still reach 150k provided u hit revised ceiling, but then private sector would likely increase their salary even higher then.

If it helps to get a sense, I'm a mid-30s MX10 CS at about 130k, going by 16 month package.

How can that be? 130k divide by 16 months only 8125.
It is lower than the MX10 range

Checking the salary guide 2022, if you are earning 12kpm (include all bonus divide by 12), you are around 10th percentile. Using both MX10 and MX11 numbers which is 15kpm and 12.5kpm, both are better 10th percentile and MX10 probably in 5th to 8th percentile range. Judging h these numbers, we can conclude CS and PS actually quite well paid compared to everyone. Of course there are private earning more, howver majority are not which you can deduct easily with the 2022 salary guide.

Your comparisons are really flawed. You are using the ceiling salary of mx11a and mx10 (of whom have worked 20-40 years and at their career end) to compare against the average salary of working class (from fresh grads to retirement age) and concluding that CS pays well. The accurate method is to compare the equivalent position of MX11A/MX10 against their respective counterparts holding similar responsibilities in private sector.
