2012-5k in next increment?

amts exclude bonus.

does not matter. i am leaving this year to persue my overseas masters and after that join the financial sector.

After applying for jobs in the financial sector, i then noticed how my resume was so irrelevant and useless to them. the truth is that if u cannot job hop, u limit ur chances of getting a pay increase or promotion. By slaving to one company alone, u r just limiting ur options.

My peers in banking are earning more than me and they are getting head hunted. Who wants to head hunt a civil servant???

2009-3.6k (second upper fresh grad)
2010-4.2k (+600 or 16.6%)
2011-4.8k (+600 or 14.2%)
2012-5k in next increment?>>i assume +600 or 12.5% for you make 5.4k

why you annual increment is do high one? 16.6%???

you from what ministry/statboard??

by 2012 you will only be at most 3 years exp, and you hit over 5k by april?!?!? so high?!?!

i graduated in 2009. Nothing is worse than that, not even asian financial crisis in 1997. MAS had to step in n offer schemes for banks to hire fresh grads at 2k/mth.

i laughed at my peers back then when i look at their low pay. fast forward they are now earning more than me and are getting headhunted, while i am stuck here. at gatherings, they network among themselves talking abt opportunties n lobangs in the financial sector. Ever heard of anyone networking with a civil servant? That's right, nobody networked with me. At that pt i knew my career path was wrong already.

I missed the boat last time round. I am not going to miss the boat again. So don't come and tell me about the current crisis. It is nothing compared to the one I experienced.

Put it this way. If u wanna leave banking, u can go into civil service as mid position (may not be high flyer role though). There is no way a civil servant can join banking as mid position. Even scholars after serving their 6 yrs bond in civil service find it hard to break into banking no matter how fantastic their overseas education is.

Unless you are a minister. Someone said if you don't pay them well, they will up stakes and join Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. Did George Yeo and Lim Hwee Hwa get a job in a blue chip financial firm?

I wonder how this is relevant to the discussion. Wonder why every now and then people will try to turn discussions into ruling party bashing sessions.

It's easy to get carried away with all these criticizing and bashing isn't it, especially when it is at no cost to yourself. It's like playing wolfenstein 3D in god mode. You get to denigrate others without opening up your flanks for counter-attacks. Where's the fun in a one-sided fight?

Speak as though you went through both 1997 and 2009. Just because you went through a bad period doesnt mean it was THE worst period. There is no free lunch in this world. Finance ppl get paid high but they work insane hours to keep the job. Just because one is not headhunted or "networked" does not mean your value is any lesser. Yes u are right, a banker can join civil service and the reverse is harder. Life is about having options but at the end of the day, there is only one reality (we make our choice about option and live with it.

Well I don't claim to speak for all civil servants but some of those that I know personally work very long hours too. there's one that works from 8/9am to midnight almost everyday. Others go 12 -15 hour work days. And most of them are really brilliant chaps.
