yup, i mean it is definitely possible to hit 8k at 33 i am sure. but that would be someone who either have extraordinary performance or scholar, and should not be stuck at 8k for 5 years.. the "story" is contradicting..

Assuming you started work at 24 and have a starting pay of 3k+, you only got total 2k increment over the past 10 years? There are ppl who have job hopped and received more with 3 to 5 years exp.

Depends on ministry, have definitely seen MX11A pay ceiling at 8k+ before.

The worklife balance was hard to beat, I don't think I can receive better offer in pte sector while only doing 1 to 2 hours worth of work a day. And even if pte sector offers 20% more, would likely have work like mad for it.

I have a senior who switched from SB to KPMG, he was making 8k+ at the SB and KPMG offered him 12k. In the end, he said he regretted because the loss of worklife balance was not worth the extra 3k.

I think it is possible leh as the OP mentioned it's an non-essential function. If the agency is very specialized (e.g. finance or engineering related) then someone in a general function will have nowhere to go internally except upwards until hit ceiling. I got a few colleagues in the same rank for decade(s) and I suspect their salary doesn't go up by much (if any). Maybe it's like army, you can be an outstanding logistic specialist and promote super fast into 1WO but will take a while to be RSM or MWO/SWO...

I started work at 26. Should be getting my promotion next year 6k+ bah. Amongst my peers around my age group (scholars and top tier agencies excluded) we all getting around 6-8k by mid thirties (which should be considered pretty average for graduates).

You talking about job hopping in private sector? Please la this is civil service thread, akin to saying people had joined investment banks and made more with 0 years exp.

What do you think about those DSTA, DSO, GovTech engineers get $5k starting salary for fresh grad?

Hopping can also mean joining another ministry or statboard.

These agencies require tech/engineering background to attain specialist pay

those are specialised scheme. thats why the first qn is what is the scheme the OP is on and he replied mx scheme. no point debating about specialised scheme. and btw, these scheme have higher monthly pay but avg annual package of 15 months. the overall package is slightly more than the general mx scheme (i am referring to avg performer, they are ppl getting 18 mths for sure, just like ppl getting 20 mths in mx scheme)

he definitely regret.. kpmg pays 13 month every year, his package would be 156k. in SB under general mx scheme he should be getting around 16 months on avg which gives him about 144k. the increase is only 1k every mth and he had to OT alot more. and drawing 12 KPMG he should be a lvl 3 SM or higher (just 1 lvl below partner), he probably has a secretary but the responsibility is heavy.. whereas a 8 9k PS officer is max a mx10 not even part of the management team most of the time.
