would be unwise to dismiss the reviews, although also true that one should take them with a pinch of salt. seems like there is an unusually high number of bad reviews which i think is important to take into consideration. It may be the case that your father is not in the departments affected and there is indeed a real mismanagement problem in parts of dsta. not everything shld be just dismissed as "misfit" or "personality clashes", after all there is no smoke without fire and ignoring complaints is how legitimate issues get overlooked by management and end up on glassdoor.

End of the day, anyone who gets an offer shld at least do their own due diligence with existing staff if possible and try to find out if there is any basis to these complaints before making a decision.

Default Mas or edb

I got offers from both Mas and edb. Which organisation is better and well recognised?

Which roles did you get! Would say both are equally good and it depends on the role, whether it's aligned with your aspirations.

DSTA and LTA, not the best for SWE.. but if you need to choose, then LTA.

HDB, IRAS, CPF or STB are a few good place to beside Govtech for Software engineering role.
His degree is political science but offered software engineering role. I guess that tells you pretty much abt DSTA and LTA engineer standard.

Probably shows you don't need a CS degree to be a SWE. The polsci student can gain some experience and jump ship after a few years. He made the right choice!

Unless he probably do coding in his free time or as freelance. i.e. got strong interest in SE but can't get into the course. I don't get how he is able to pass the technical test.

i don't think it would be wise to outright dismiss the reviews from unhappy staff. while there is always a number of unhappy people in every org, i think the volume of negative feedback is something to take into consideration as well. after all, there is no smoke without fire and not every negative review is because of "misfit" or "personality clashes". this is the sort of perspective that leads to real organisational problems being ignored and swept under the carpet (because the assumption must be staff cannot fit in right? not the org's fault that things are dysfunctional), which then leads to the vicious cycle of staff becoming unhappier and then leading to high turnover. this is not to say your father's anecdotal experience is inaccurate, but it may be that your father is lucky to be in a team that is relatively isolated from these systemic problems, especially in public service where different departments can be very siloed from each other.

end of the day, agree that anyone with an offer should take the reviews with a pinch of salt but still be prudent enough to acknowledge the possible issues. of course, best is to ask someone you know who is working there to know whether there is any truth to the reviews.

Hi to everyone who replied to my post #12059, thanks for the informative replies.
I graduated from NUS ISS GDipsa. May I ask why LTA over DSTA? Other than the reviews on DSTA glassdoor it being a more specialized? Would think that DSTA is a technical SB and hence would be better for SWE.
