I am highly doubtful when this isn't even possible with the top MA programs in the private sector.. and to say that MFA > Citibank/P&G/Shell/UL etc is just hard to believe, especially remuneration wise.
Ask your FSOs friends what OCLA is (;

He got it spot on - although if you’re after money stay away from the Foreign Service or the public sector for that matter.

Source: I am a FSO (and yes, I have a FCH degree from a good university).

i am 34 this year. 8 yrs in a MNC bank drawing 9k per mth, 135p.a.. joined PS 1.5 years ago with a pay cut to 8k per mth (was told avg 17 mths package so will be about the same).

after i join, i realise PS pay top performer really well, i end up getting 19.5 mths.

i was also one of the top performer in private sector (not sales though) drawing abt 135k p.a at the age of 32. but in PS i am getting near to 160k p.a so i think PS pays really well for top performer, even better than most private sector.

I think OP is referring to freshers in the FSO scheme which boasts candidates with illustrious backgrounds due to the job always exhibiting an abundance in applicants which allows MFA the privilege to cherry pick their pool.

Haha, I find their backgrounds very average lei.

Did a quick LinkedIn search - Second upper law school, first class in stuff like history, pol sci.. very zai meh? These are stuff that you should easily get FCH.

I just find the standards pretty meh from those that they hired and interacted. And yes, there will be those of you will say I am sour grapes blah blah.. okay, if you say so.

I’m the poster in #10207. Shrugs, whether you believe any bit of what I say is inconsequential. I don’t have anything to prove. It is rather silly to compare jobs, and it is even more so to regard what is said online as the gospel. One thing’s clear though, you can usually identify a person’s station from the way he speaks and writes. i’ll just leave it as that.

Managerial level, of course need to work more to deserve the salary.

Can't be like MX12/13, just waiting for clock to strike 6.

They have the highest starting base salaries (around 5k) and are entitled to bonuses particular to the scheme above and beyond the normal schemes (retention bonuses in the 3/4/7/8/9th years in service, other special bonuses and allowances).

That said, they also have the roughest working hours (8am - 12am almost 7 days a week - and for the more intense Desks, 2-3am is the norm). You will be worked to the bone. You will be shouted at and the working environment is not for the faint of heart.

Its also a boiler-pot chock full of elites. Most FSOs (even the non scholars) are either local university scholars or hail from top universities abroad (Oxbridge/HYPSM and the ilk). Do a simple search on LinkedIn if you don’t believe me. Even second uppers are rare. A significant proportion are also law graduates or lawyers by training (given both the relevance of the role as well as the fact that it is the only role in the CS - other than the Legal Service - which pays well enough to make it a reasonable alternative to practicing law in the private sector).[Note: I have to caveat that I am talking about FSOs in the Political and Economic track.]

Put simply, it is the only job in the civil service where you can hope to draw mid five-figures a month in under 5 years - if you get in (one of the lucky 20-30 out of the 5000 or so applicants annually) and if you survive.
mid five-figures a month is 50k a month. and you can get it in under 5 years? smells like serious bs

mid 5 figure is actually closer to 55k/month which also happens to be minister's salary.... Our ministers must be very underpaid if they're drawing the equivalent of a 5 year fso
