Where I am from, they don't care whether you are honours, or basic degree.

If you are a scholar, they will nurture and groom you. If you say what they want to hear, you will rise very fast.

Agree with the reply above. It doesn't matter that you were top student. They might give you a bit more starting pay for your FCH if the degree is relevant. Otherwise it only matters which track you are on: scholar or farmer.

base on my personal experience.. promotion technically had nothing to do with scholar or not, it is performance based.

But being a scholars, you will be under the spotlight of management and given much more opportunities to shine.

i am a non scholar, non local u but with ns. currently 34. due to unforesee circumstance, i was given some chance to work on a national project. Am currently a mx10. Not fantastic but i think it is consider quite good for a farmer.

"not fantastic."

c'mon who are u kidding? humblebrag spotted.

i know of so many people, non-scholars with local uni certs (NUS/NTU/SMU) who couldn't even hit MX11A before the age of 35 years old.

No, i did not include AWS but from what i know, there is only 13th month. And no, it is not a small agency.

Don't shortchange yourself if you have FCH.
Does being on contract (2-year in my case) vs perm staff affect the pay as well?

u have nothing better to do than to boast issit?

What's the point of saying - not fantastic being a MX10 at 34, but considered quite good?

U want forumers to disagree and praise you instead issit?

Quite loserish here.

Out civil service is vastly overpaid and contributing to high overhead costs and nipping away at profitability of businesses via all sorts of taxes and fees for a small nation. Time to cut away unnecessary processes and hierarchy within the org.

I used to think that way till I joined. I also used to think that civil servants were overpaid slackers. Then I joined the service.

At least where I am, we work hard as hell (frequent OT and sometimes on Saturdays too) and the pay is very low for the complexity and volume of work we do (take home ~$3k at 30+ yrs old). Not as easy or unjustified as I had thought.

Second this. I use to think so too. But turn out to be lots of OT and workload. Not as easy as what people say.
