Can I ask if you have rejected the offer already? Is calling or emailing better?
I think I'm gonna have to reject one offer very soon and I don't really know how to approach it.

Rather than wasting the interviewer's time, I feel more guilty on wasting the HR person's time cos they called me a few times so the rejection feels more personal.... And also I feel guilty that by stalling for so long, another candidate who could have gotten the role will not....

Hello! I did it through email and wrote it in a nice manner (i guess they are used to it and probably just curse at it and then life goes on)... but still i feel bad now.

were you also waiting to hear from others before you reject one? sometimes i just feel embarrassed asking for extension because if could have spared the agony for the next best candidate.

i wished they reject me instead of me rejecting them!

Oh, I was deliberating between calling or emailing so I googled and most suggested following the usual communication method throughout the entire process. Unfortunately, the HR always call me so I guess it's beter if I just call. I honestly thought they would reject me (and quite okay with that too lol) but alas...

I asked for a week's time to decide on the provisional offer which I accepted last week and now I have to reject it cos my first choice seems to have a made a firm offer.

Hi everyone, just to ask when a company extends you an verbal offer and asks if you are interested to proceed with the application so that they can get the management to approve and compute you salary - it doesnt mean that I would get the job right?

So if i get such a thing, can i say yes and change my mind later once the final salary is out etc?

I am in the same situation as you. I read through this forum and I accepted cos someone said nothing is confirmed till you sign the contract. Verbal offers probably means we are 90% confirmed but there's still a chance that it gets retracted. We don't lose anything by accepting it. So yeah, you can change your mind as long as you didn't sign anything. Just that the HR will probably get irritated later.

oh i'm scared that after saying yes on the phone i'm legally bind to the organisation; just got my first offer and they quoted me an expected package and asked if i was interested. thanks for helping a fellow freshie. so now not sure if i should look for other jobs or wait for other companies to interview me.

anyway i also said yes after reading the forum that 'verbal offers can be retracted or fail', and i thought it seems stupid if i say yes without knowing the actual pay. just wanted to be sure that i won't be sued later on or something haha.

do note that your irresponsible behaviour will cause you to get blackmarked throughout the whole of the public service.

For the previous posters and all, contract of service does not take effect until you turned up for work on your first day. Signing an employment contract doesn't necessarily mean that you've got the job until you start work.

s://.mom.gov.sg/employment-practices/contract-of-service

"Starting a contract of service
The contract is in effect when the new recruit turns up for work on the appointed starting date.

If the recruit fails to turn up:

The Employment Act does not apply, as the employer-employee relationship did not start
The employer cannot claim notice pay or any compensation in accordance to the Act
Any claims for compensation by the employer will have to be a civil claim through a lawyer"
