It's not ''sharply below average'' since u have a non-local 2:2. Local uni will definitely have far better progression.

MTI economist scheme? Sounds legit as this pay grade is usually pegged just below MAS & EDB which is at around 4.7 to 5.2k fresh grade associate position. Variable component implemented by most companies regardless public or private as a salary buffer for dire economic times (like now)

Your contract shall state your grade. How did you know the range?

The package is standard I believe, mid-year bonus + end-year bonus + AWS. I'm on the MX scheme, MX13.
I was afraid of COVID-19 affecting the economy and in general the poor economy (was offered in mid-January, put it on hold and was offered another job in the private sector at $3.2K), so I just took up the job.
I thought $3.5K was pretty good because none of my friends have graduated and most go to work in social services, so they get lower salaries than I do.
Man, this seriously bummed me out. I came here because a friend from MTI told me that I was being severely shortchanged, but I don't understand why? Anyone can provide any insights?
Is it advisable for me to start looking elsewhere? I have a probation period of 1 year and I've also heard that it's not good to leave your job before the 1 year mark. I do enjoy what I do somewhat but I'm the type who can enjoy most kinds of work.

Believable as MCI is not an economic ministry unlike your friend from MTI. Usually in terms of ministry pay grade, your "tier 1 ministries" such as MTI & MOF will offer the highest salary - in the range of 4 to 4.5k.
Gotta look at the public service in its entirety - Most prestigious/highest paid ( MAS, EDB & MFA) followed by Tier 1 ministries - MTI & MOF then tier 2 - Mindef, MND & MOM then the others like MOE, MSF, MOT & MCI etc etc

The contract states the range n grade. But I am from a SB and we do not follow MX grade. So I wonder what's the MX grade equivalent.

So the amount they offer shld not be inclusive of pb and avc right?
They told me it will be revised upwards to arnd 4.8-5 after my uni certification is out. For second upper above.
