His progression has also been fairly good. To be drawing that kind of pay, he is likely to be on the MX11 pay scale now. Most people would still be on MX12 pay scale at that age.

Thanks. I am 34 this year, took a slight pay cut (annual package) from private to join public service to try it out. I look through the forum, i think mx11a is still a reasonable pay grade for my age.

Hi! I'm 29, female graduated with
-overseas degree (no honours)
-scholarship and completed bond
-2 years in relevant field (front) but left and join the finance sector for 5 years.
-now applying to a senior executive role in the civil sector(back office) cause want stability
Skill is transferrable from finance to my previous field that I am applying

If successful, may I know what grade and salary will I be appointed?Any seasoned civil servants able to guide me on this? Thanks, very much appreciated.

My guess/estimate is MX12, about $5k.

I think should be $4-5k, bearing in mind that you’re likely to benchmarked based on your degree outcomez. Since you do not have honours, you base salary is likely to be low 3s with increment based on your experience for around 200/mth - that will depend on the HR to decide. Maybe some top-up for the kind of roles your apply, if you’re it is a senior position, then some increment based in that.

If it sounds little, yes, because starting salary in the civil service is not too high. With your experience, perhaps in the long-run you should go further!

Thank you so much! Has anyone try to negotiate with HR on the salary? What are some of the key factors that will be taken into consideration for a successful negotiation?

Of course, i think they would also take your current salary into account. So maybe move it from there when they offer you something.

I think the most important is the type of roles, perhaps, a more senior role has a higher band and this bigger room for negotiation? I think most department has a budget, so i think let the HR know realistically what you are looking at, and i don’t think they would lowball you if you made that clear to the HR, even if they do, ask again before you reject. I advise you to convince the panel on what you can bring to the table, so it should make things easier when they consider your salary!

Again, consider that you should go further in the long run though. For example, they usually do not pay masters unless the job specifically ask for a Masters degree. But in the long run, you have a better progression per se, but maybe the initial salary may not be as high as what you’re expecting.

Lastly? Consider annual package too - on average you will see 16-17x for an annual package.

These are just my opinions and may not be true or correct from a HR standpoint! Hope it gives you some food for thoughts! All the best
