If you have passion for the job, you will not regret the choice as this is one job that allows you to see the real world and influence lies of people. It requires personal commitment and sacrifice of time. So you can live with the fact (OMS holders will always have a smoother path than direct entry), then go for it. The salary and promotion prospects are much better now so you should have a decent income by 40. Don't join because of pay (anyway no time to enjoy if you are dedicated). But do consider limited career option if you leave - at least during the initial few years cos people out there don't quite understand the skills and knowledge one can develop in the force.

I am thinking of joining the civil service from the private sector and I am expecting an offer soon (for manager position).
I am middle age, mid-career, with about 10 years of relevant experience for the applied job. What grade am I expected to start from ? MX11?

Sounds about right for a Manager Position. Should straddle between a MX11 to MX11A.

Hi all, I just discovered this forum. Wow super informative. Two jobs: one with MX scheme and one with IO scheme. Slightly prefer the job scope of the MX scheme one. What is the difference between the IO and the MX scheme in the long run? Does anyone know what's the implication of choosing the MX one over the IO one?

Has anyone has any information on the Foreign Service Administration Specialist.
So how much does Foreign Service Administration Specialist Grade 7 pays?
Let's say if i do not want to work overseas, can I opt to stay in Singapore?

Hi all,
29 yo male, 3 years 9 months in civil service (exclude NS)
SMU Degree
2013 - MX13 (start at S$3.5K+, default C grade because less than 1 year)
2014 - MX12 (S$3.8K+, default C grade because confirmation to MX12)
2015 - MX12 (S$4K+, B grade)
2016 - MX12 (S$4.2K+, B grade)
