You need to hop out to private for a significant amt of time with better increment then there is a chance of offering you a higher salary next round. However, do also make sure your overall package in private also increased and not just the monthly salary. There is also a possibility that next time when you intend to return to CS or PS, might not be easy. That is what happened to my ex colleague. So, do take into consideration of all the possibilities that might happen and also the job market and economy. Don't later end up with nothing and just waste your time.

In theory....in practice, it is impossible to predict all factors before hand...anyone know if civil service offer same or better salaries for mid-career applicants in the first place? i suppose is only for those with more in-demand skills rather than generalists..

Iím from private sector doing non-tech job. Whatís the MX grade if I want to get a $160k annual? It has to be a leadership role huh? Does someone with 11 YOE earn this amount or even more?

That is around MX11a or MX10. I supposed there are people with 11YOE already earning more than this amount in Public Sector.

Yes, it is impossible to predict but you need to take into consideration of the possibility of those that might happen. If you accept those risks, fine with it. I have seen my ex colleagues jumped out and cannot jump in back and regret. It is all about salaries, we all know that. However, luck will run out.

Non tech honestly hard to get this in public service with 11 YOE. This is like a MX 10 or 9 kind of amt for non tech and yes, in leadership role.

160k annual is 10k a month assuming good pb and avc... This is a very high 11a (could even be hard stuck) or mid 10...

I made about 140 as a MX10 at 37 years old last year (C grade). To reach 160 annual, you probably have to be around 40, with better mid-year/annual bonuses, and perhaps a better performance grade too.

What u say is generally true.
Probably is easier to go from CS to private , rather than from private to CS mid career.
U will need specialised skills to stand out from the annual stream of fresh graduates, scholars, etc to even join CS.
Politically correct to say no age discrimination, but is probably a factor when CS interview you.

Mid career transits across different industry is not always easy.
For those that did it, any one care to share their experiences either way?
