Normal. I started out with $xx70 at statboard.

Hi all, just wondering as a fresh graduate who is likely to get an offer from a stat board, is there any room in negotiating? If so, how much should I increase the offer by? E.g. 20% increase but hope for 10%? Or is it frowned upon by employers.

Don’t think there’s any room for negotiation as they compute the initial salary based on a formula.

Zero room for negotiation for fresh grads in the public service because it's calculated using a specific formula.

Unless you managed to move up a class (e.g 2nd upper to FCH) between the time you apply for the job and your graduation, else, what is there for a fresh grad to negotiate?

Seems about right if you consider them giving you a slight premium for your starting salary due to your masters and your 13 years of exp in academia are treated as useful but not directly relevant so it is halved (~7years). Of course if you compare with someone who starts off in the Ministry from a fresh grad (not saying that you should compare) and after working for 13 years in that place, that person will definitely be paid more than what they offer you. Also, have to bear in mind it is a contract job.

Speaking as someone from the private sector, there are anecdotes of fake FT degrees getting past SG checks and balances.
The problem is MOM confirmed they will not check.
They say employer's responsibility to check.
If employer company CEO is an indian from india, he can warn HR dept NOT to check.
Then 80% the "highly qualified" foreigners from india in SG may have FAKE degrees.
So far, there is no solution to this in SG.
State Authorities pass the buck (just the simple act of checking) to private sector and employers.
Why is this so?
I suspect MOM is very afraid to discover the truth.
Because then they will be under fire for allowing to happen.
Have to explain in Parliament.
I think in the long term this is going to wound SG deeply.

Thanks! Major struggle really coz of the 1 year contract. Offering me same salary as Current job but with the “promise” of a better annual package. Comfort vs new challenges/progression

With ns or no ns? 2.1 or 2.2?
