TJS was an admin officer. He would most likely have been able to afford a bungalow had he remained in service.
But he gave up his good AO career, despite what GCT said about him after he joined an AP, to pursue another lucrative career in finance. Goes to show finance is the way to go.

The only other prominent example I can think of is Finian Tan, who joined as AO (DS) from private sector, only to shortly leave for a career in VC / PE, which arguably are about finance as well.

4 questions:
(1) What is your background prior to uol degree (working, dip, etc)?
(2) Which jobs did you apply for and are you specifically asking for advice regarding govt jobs?
(3) If the answer to (2)(2nd part) is yes, did u check whether the degree is recognised by the specific agency you applied to?
(4) What are your expectations?

1. My diploma is business management major supply chain management.
as for work experience mostly part time sales and admin
2. I applied for PA, PUB, IRAS, CPF. yes im asking for advice regarding govt job. Is my degree able to get me in a govt job? My sis with same degree got in PA in 2008.
3. I will go find out.
4. I hope to get at least 2.4k as a fresh grad in govt sector. But i google around and seems like starting pay is higher. I understand my degree is distance learning and general business thus cant command higher salary?

Lastly i hope any UOL business graduates in govt sector can reply here and give advice to me.

I think the earlier post is about right. But you might want to understand more about the specific agency's progression structure. In the civil service, we use the CEP system. I think stat boards are given the leeway to set their own rules.

I think that so long as you keep level headed in both short and long term expectations, then that is alright. Short term meaning you expect a high initial salary (your expectations appear reasonable) and long term meaning you expect to have immediately a clear path through to Director/DCE, CE positions in the long term.

Hard to say, might take a while. Why not give the HR a call?

Why are you so desparate to get into govt sector? Is it because of the percieved stabilty and the more relaxed enviroment compared to private sector? My advice for you is not to join because you will NOT go very far with your sub-atandard foreign degree... There are tons of scholars inside every govt agency... They are the ones that will receive all the rewards and recognition... You will end up as their cushion to sit on... The routine and tedious projects the scholars will push to you while they handle those "glam" projects that will aid in their promotion and good performance bonus... Alot of time, you will find yourselve doing all the dirty job, they will take all the glory... Your annual increment will slow down when you hit a certain age and is unlikely to gain employment elsewhere becos your experience is silly and irrelevant to other companies... You will worry of getting a golden handshake to early retirement.. Is this what you call job stability?? The true meaning of Job stability means that you possess vast experience, expertise, reputation and the industry contacts to benefit whichever company you will join.. Will you be able to attain all these things if you join a govt agency?? I think not.... My advice is to think long term and join a industry with good growth potential, the start will definitely be tougher but you will end up happier and more rewarded than being a lowly paid civil servant with obselete skillsets in the govt sector... You only live once, so choose wisely on how you want to invest your life... Dun waste your life slogging for a lost cause... I wish you the very best and hope that you will not allow fear to paralyse you from achieving what you were really meant to become... Best of luck!!
