Unless OP is switching to a job with better work/life balance to take care of family. In such cases taking such a pay cut is fair and decent.
Different stage of life means different priorities ler...not everything abt money

is the package considered low or average for mid career change? I thought it was low but would like to seek advice.

Hi, pls also consider overall package (in terms of bonus as well). You 6k+ includes all bonuses? Your 4.8 likely excludes bonus. Btw, if this is purely a 1 year contract job with no chance of renewal, no reason to take it up at all. Unless you r about to be retrenched by current employer.

Renewal subject to performance . 6+k is overall.
Yes there are retrenchment exercise happening in other regions (im in mnc), not sure when and if coming

You should just stay on in 6+k job. Although not everything is about money but in this case is 1 to 2k difference. Private is unstable now but there is no need to worry too much on things that have not happened yet.
