age: nearing 40s

All info/discussion is appreciated.

Thanks

I think ok, higher than mine.
Work there 10 years pay just increased to 3200. Just 30 this year.

Any news on the salary adjustments? Most stat boards have already announced or even incremented already. IPS scheme is taking so long.

Unregistered 15-10-2022 12:45 PM

For admin staff conversion to be lecturer, will there be a pay raise?

What are the lecturer benefits compared to admin?

After poly, a lecturer was looking for people to hire for the school so i just took the job and stayed. Pretty common back then.

Unregistered 06-12-2022 10:30 AM

Got news that they are review the IPS salary scale. anyone with any other news? The exact salary scale?

Unregistered 06-12-2022 11:28 AM

Salary increment "Eligible officers on the IPS will receive salary adjustments of between 3.5% and 10%.
At the same time, the IPS salary ranges will also be adjusted upwards."

Unregistered 26-12-2022 01:01 PM

Heard IPS 9 salary cap will be increased by 10%.

Unregistered 28-12-2022 06:54 PM

folks, I will be joining as a lecturer in March 2023. My starting salary is 4k. I have 3 years work experience in the industry.

I want to stay in the polytechnic for the next 10-15 years.
Salary wise, could someone shed a light on how much salary should I expect in next 5 years and 10 years? How many years does it take for promotions?

May I ask why the starting salary for a poly lecturer is so low? I was expecting at least 6-7k for new poly lecturers with a couple of years of working exp.

I am currently a senior lecturer at one of the polytechnics and have been in this role for slightly more than 10 years. Speaking from my own experience, I think promotion (i.e. moving to the next IPS) comes about once every 5 years if your progression is smooth.

However, I have seen colleagues who longer to attain promotion (there are also some who has no promotion since god knows how long). So I guess a lot depends on your performance which means you need to build your own portfolio, such as industry projects or developing CET programmes. Just being good at teaching alone is seldom enough.

To answer your second question on salary, I guess an average of $200-$300 increment each year is a realistic expectation, assuming you don't get stuck at any IPS grade. You can get a slightly higher increment on the year of your promotion (about $400-500).

You can use this to predict how your salary will be like in 5 to 10 years time. But as I mentioned earlier, a lot depends on your performance.

Unregistered 01-01-2023 03:34 PM

No, that's the misconception. Your salary is always based on the IPS level you are on and the annual salary package. If you look at it from a annual perspective, a 4k salary should come up to:

12 months: 48k
13th month: 4k
performance bonus (about 1.5mth for a newbie C grade): 6k
govt bonus mid year+ end year(based on 2022): 5.6k

So total you are looking at around 63k.

A 6k salary is IPS 7.

Lol, I joined in March a few years ago. I'll say based on my experience.

For your first year, definitely expect a C grade and pro-rated bonuses. Take the first 2 years to get used to the job and don't chiong KPIs. There will be some training to complete so spend more time on those.

It is quite hard to say what your progression will be like as there's a lot of factors behind it. I have people in my dept who have been there for 10 years and still havent gotten their senior lecturer promotion yet. For promotion, you can expect once every 5-6 years. But that also comes down to your department. If you have a good RO, he/she will prompt you on when to step up. Another way you can look at it is your salary ceiling. Each IPS also has a salary range, if you hit the top limit or are close to it, then you should be due for promotion. But they recently increased this top limit, so you can expect to take a longer time to hit the ceiling.

Its good to look long term, but pls be prepared to go back to the industry every few years. Things are changing so fast, that my older colleagues are having trouble keeping up with the changes.

Increment

Most of my colleagues got an increment of 4-5%. One of them got 10% increment, her IPS is just one level above ours. Any idea how HR does the calculations?

Unregistered 04-01-2023 09:25 PM

Unregistered 04-01-2023 10:29 PM

What are the IPS grade of these people getting 10%? Are they always good performers or appointment holders?

BTW: The new ceiling is shown in the letter.

Unregistered 05-01-2023 12:05 PM

IPX08A: new range (increased by 10%)
S$6,226.00 - S$8,580.00

That's what I know. How about other IPXs?

Unregistered 05-01-2023 10:03 PM

seems like this time, higher IPS get more % adjustments compared to the lower IPS

Ips7 - $5390 - $7480

Also 10%

Unregistered 07-01-2023 10:34 PM

From Earlier Post: IPX07: $5390 - $7480 (post say about 10% up)

From Earlier Post: IPX08: S$6,226.00 - S$8,580.00 new range (post say about 10% up)

New post: sources say IPX9: $7.0K to $9.9k (about 10% up )

Above pattern seem consistent

How many years of experience does it take to reach IPX08 for a local uni fresh grad?

Unregistered 08-01-2023 01:17 PM

I am at the IPS7 range but only have a 5% increment unfortunately. Not sure why the discrepancy. Perhaps higher IPS than 7 then have higher increment?

Perhaps others can share their percentage increment + IPS level?

possibly tied to performance rating unfortunately

Will most farmers retire at IPX9 or IPX10?

There are only two cases at my poly: 3.5% OR 10% in salary increment.

Unregistered 08-01-2023 11:08 PM

old IPX10 was abt $1k abov IPX9 (current max $9.9k). Estimatin new IPX10 maybe max $11k-$11.5k. Do correct the figures here if anyone knows better. IPX10 is management role with less teaching/tooones admin. Those only wana teach may not enjoy IPX10 job scope.
