Does anyone have an idea what the bonus is like for Exxon?

Sorry, just realised someone already posted earlier, its 3months fixed bonus regardless of performance.

The pay ($4900 x 15mth) does not seem that great considering he's an experienced hire, and likely to be exposed to the occasional harsh chemical plant environment, and all those chemicals. Just a thought.

You can expect 2.5k to 4.5k for 2-3 years of experience based on your qualifications, relevant experience and the type of companies that are offering you the job. There are really many different type of companies out there such as the oill supermajors, EPCs, contractors, vendors, services or whether you are talking about the upstream or downstream industry.

Impt thing to consider is the salary increment. On average, engineers get anywhere about 2-4% annual increment. This trend has been around for years and will probably stay for the next few decades in Sg. Sure the starting pay is a little higher than other majors, but do some math and you will realise that even with promotion raises, it will eventually lose out to most of the rest.

One will never be rich as an average engineer in Sg, but you won't starve to death either (at least I hope not, with all the rising cost of living).

Default so sad

im studying aerospace engineering in ntu right now (prob one of the hardest course in the sch) and many of us who were prob straight As students for Alevels are really regretting our choice to study engineering.
We take up to 8 modules/semester while our biz/acct friends get to have 3 days week. the feeling just sucks when it is the hard truth that it is just the nature of the engineering field that we will get paid lesser even though we may be smarter or whatsoever. sigh.. just ranting.

banking and finance is a viable option but how many of us are willing to accept the fact that the 4 years of engineering studies are gonna be useless?

Trust me....you will find it easier to enter banking / finance / marketing position compared to biz friends (acct has advantages, as you cannot be accountant)...engineer grad is always highly sought in these sector (unless you have 3rd class or no honours)..

If you want good money...dun be an engineer...

Not entirely useless. It's just that engineers are not well paid or respected in singapore. Working hours can be like people in the finance sector (50+ hrs) but paid less than half their pay. That's why one can see on many posts about engineers jumping to other sectors on online forums.

After 10 years of working as engineer, my salary is 4.3k, 2 month bonus.
My classmates are in finance easily earning 16k with 10 month bonus.
Do your math

The fact that you guys are doing aerospace shows you aren't smart at all. Perhaps good at scoring A's in tests but definitely mediocre in terms of finding out what's best in Singapore for making money.

Somewill say money is not important, so don't come here and rant and go live out your dream of being an engineer for life working for others for peanuts. A true engineer is like Edison who builds things to change the world, or Richard Branson who build companies flying people around and even to space in the future.

If you like building small things, do it as a hobby. Working for others in engineering sucks like hell. So aim to make more money first.

If you like building big things, first you have to be rich.

Being an engineer in Singapore will not make you rich. Even if you want to start a business, being an engineer will not give you much savings.

Make money first.
