Cool off people.
To Poor and Stupid -
We dont know and dont care if you are Patrick from NEA or not. Your clowning around as some downtrodden engineer is getting annoying.
Cut it out and get a life.

Engineering is just a normal paying job, average pay I think. I'm a technical engineer in a precision design company, this year 30 with >5 years experience drawing 4.7k.
My peers same age in other department like IT Finance Procurement are also around there. I guess as long as we don't keep comparing with the top earners like investment bankers, management consultants, lawyers or top property agents it should be ok.

Come on, share with us the fun in solving triple partial integral, and how your salary is going by the tangent.
I am trying to get people into the right track, you know engineering is almost dead in singapore, stop deluding people with engineer with high pay scales, those are SALES x engineers.
Sales gives high pay, engineering without the sales factor is dead.

Sales engineer or engineer is still an engineer. Sales engineers are revenue generating so they get paid more competitively than engineers who are typically in the cost center.
This is kind of a known fact. If you are an engineer who aspire a bigger paycheck, you should know where to go.

now that we know you full of s***, let me tell you something. Some people just like doing engineering stuff, it thrills them. the pay sux, but it still pays something, and over time, you will realize technical skill / hard skill is just as important in the long run over some lame ass sales / marketing job. But all of this pales in comparison to a d*** like you who thinks he's real smart, but is in fact just an a****.

From what I hear among my engineer friends, seem like most mid career engineers are making 4-6k. It is actually not bad and decent pay if you like what you are doing.
I have 2 engineer colleagues got lure by the finance industry, waste time & money to study a finance masters only to get condemn in some low pay back office or consumer banking job. Then they come back to engineering again.
My thinking is as long as the pay is decent enough for your lifestyle, you like the work you are doing, there is no point keep comparing with the top earners in the society.

Ok, the pay is not "washing dishes" bad but have you checked with friends from business studies? (creative/marketing/management)?
OK, if you put it in that way, then sure its livable....
I not am even comparing with law/medical studies (which I couldnt get in anyway), I think for engineering to go "on-par" with a general degree is a rough route and advising everyone to not go that path.
Of cos if you like solving stress/distribution model or heat wave equations go for it.

Mid career jobs from business degree graduates like Marketing manager, HR Manager, Sales Manager or Logistics Manager is also around 5-6k in the market, not much difference lah. Just be content and accept the fact that not everyone is going to be a high flier.
Why get so bitter by comparing with the top earners all the time? You just make yourself miserable everyday you come to work. Except for a lot of tall tales in this forum, not many degree grads in real life make it past 10k even at their prime. Public servants who are not scholars will also retire at AD/DD level at only ~8k in their late 50s.
You should not be ridiculing and degrading engineers just because you personally have some emotional traumatic experience as an engineer. I'm sure every job has their fair share of unhappy people. A lot of times is all about having realistic expectations. For me I like what I'm doing everyday, get paid decently and live a standard middle class lifestyle with a happy family, this is all that matters. The bankers and CEO/CFO/COO can make millions also can, important thing is I lead a good life.
Just my 2 cents.
