This forum is full of rubbish about engineers salary. I think they are planted by PAP.
In typical private sector
engineer: below 2-3k
senior engineer: 3.2-5k
principal engineer: above 5k
Ass Manager: above 5k
Manager: above 6k
Dept Manager: above 8k
MD: can be alot
How many managers and director can we have? So many people claiming they earning alot alot is ********.
Some lucky guys may end up in oil and gas in western country. Salary around SGD60,000-10,000 before tax even for those juniors. That is for those lucky people.
government:
Normally above 3k, but alot of politics
Normally give you 5k at the 5th years, but most people can't take politics and left in the 2nd -3rd year.
My best Singaporean friend NUS 2nd upper miss 1st class by 0.1 GPA
4k after 7 years doing R&D.
Me, 5k after 8 years. I consider myself lucky. Everywhere I go 90% of colleague FT.
Nowadays 80% of NUS/ NTU engineering graduate cannot find engineering job.

Sorry the above is annual income.
My 5k income at 8 years experience is equivalent to ass manager/Principal level in engineering field. 6k will be manager level.
And I assure you with so many FT, it is extremely difficult to get a job.

take it easy man. based on the survey from salary.sg, 3rd quartile IT manager pay is as below. 190k is not out of the question. Pls don't hold a grudge against those who earn a decent income.
Computer and information systems manager – $9,751

That some people can make a reasonable living out of being an engineer (>5k/mth before bonus in 5 yrs) is true. It really depends on what kind of engineer, and what sector. I know quite a few who are earning that amount.
And that some people can make 1M out of investments, is conceivable, although I don't personally know any. Making 1M out of property, I know quite a few who made it that way, some made a few millions.
As the other forumer said, don't begrudge those who made it. Think of how u can become one of them.

This person claim he is a IT engineer drawing $190 000. IT manager may draw 9K but mostly in banks. And it take a steep bonus for a 9k salary to hit 19k annual income. As I have mention my earlier post, you can only get this salary in banks.
Please do not accuse without basis of grudge holding. I am trying to dispel so many lies regarding engineer salary.

Engineers in western countries earn much more than that. In the UK, starting salary for a fresh grad engineer is around 30,000 pounds/yr before tax. Chartered engineers can earn twice that amount. In the US, starting salary for a chemical engineer can be around US 60,000/yr before tax . I know a US software engineer (ivy league grad) earning US 120,000/yr before tax and he is in his early 30s.
In SG, we engineers are not so well paid. But not all engineers are that hard up either.

As long as you are willing to stooge in DSTA, LTA, DSO..etc, ultra notorious for politicking, 5k a month in 5 years is garanteed.
And to dispel more myth, go jobstreet and jobdb, u see companies hiring for engineering in less than 2k.

Sorry my error in communicating idea. I mean junior oil and gas engineer can earn SGD60 000 -100 000 in western countries.
A principal engineer in oil and gas, minings can make USD200 000 -250 000.
A software architect in US which is at the very top food chain earns USD$100,000 and above normally.

yes, i was made some good investments in 2003 after SARS and after 2009. it's not easy to attain wealth purely through salary and savings. important is to build up savings and be patient so you can exploit the next recession / financial crisis

Actually i quite agree. I am of engineer level & have around 7 years experience. I must say engineer pay really sucks to the core. unless you are in oil & gas, semi con and perhaps some government company, the majority rest pay is really bad. & i agree there is so much FT around.
My current company 90% FT for engineer level. My last company 70% FT for engineer level. My last last comapny 80% FT for engineer level. Everytime i go interview every time without fail my competitors are all FT. No wonder the engineer pay are so stagnant in singapore.
