I am currently in banking, approaching 40 years old. average performer, title is VP but just another ordinary clerk in a cubicle. been moving from job to job every 2-5 years, got laid off before also in bad year. latest job hours are long and kinda inconvenient (working on multiple markets). current anual package around 200k

Now got an opportunity to switch to an iron rice bowl (you know, garmen job). suppose to be very stable, but will incur like 15% pay-cut. The pay will still be comfortable and I can enjoy more time with my young kids. Now dilemma whether take or not. Exit options will be close to zero if join public sector, but shall be no problem work till 60 or even beyond.

suggestions?
No brainer to switch to govt job. 15% pay cut out of 200k is 30k and you won't feel it. You can still lead a good life standard with 170k. Most importantly you now have more time with your kids and more time to spend your 170k.

I'm in my late 40s and I've retired from the global finance industry. I've travelled the globe during my long career in the sector. I've made enough.

Currently I'm doing business advisory and social work. It is very fulfilling to help organisations succeed and making the lives of the less fortunate better.

I now have a lot more time to spend with my family, especially my aging parents and children who need my care and attention.

My children loves me so much more now as I have more time to talk to them, to advise them and to be there when they need my help. I'm like their best friend.

I'm very happy and contented with my achievements and wealth. My assets include high quality, dividend paying blue chip stocks and multiple private properties in Singapore.

My quality of life is a lot better now. There is more to life than the incessant pursuit of material wealth.

As I'm already materially rich, it is time I take better care of my relationships with my loved ones and contribute back towards society.

Contributing back towards society doesn't simply means donating a few thousand dollars every year but also taking the time and effort to make a real difference to the less fortunate. It requires active voluntary involvement and commitment.

My life is now more balanced. I've achieved material wealth and now I'm pursuing other meaningful things in life. I'm a happier person now. Most importantly my family is happier now.

I've found the true meaning of happiness.

If you think so, why not just ignore and not quote his post?

He is suffering from what I suspected - a decaying mind. Brought about by early retirement. Once you disengaged from active work especially at young age, your mind and alertness starts to decline.

His repeated (copy and paste) posts are a manifestation of that. It is very hard for him to generate original thoughts.

He is also very hypocritical. He claimed that he had made his fortune, then in the same sentence, he start singing the tune that people working hard to build up their fortune were materialistic. Shameless hypocrite.

200k - What is your split between base and comm/bonus? Is the 170k gahmen job 100% base pay? If so, i sign already. No stress, 9-5 job. no brainer...
