I dont get that impression.
it's available everywhere. sometimes i see the 85% figure used as well.

from HDB http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10320p....g?OpenDocument :

"Public housing in Singapore is uniquely different. Home to over 80% of Singapore's resident population..."

How are we doing?
Can we retire at 60?
Your timing to upgrade to a condo is perfect, that was at the lowest point. Owning a condo and a car, both fully paid, is awesome! Congrats dude! You will have no problem retiring at 60. You can even retire at 55 if you downgrade to a 4 room HDB flat or you retire in cheaper places like KL, Penang or Thailand. You will be a multi millionaire in Malaysia and Thailand! If your net worth is Singapore is $2m in Singapore, it will be RM5.5m in Malaysia. Wow!

Yes you retire now. Just sell your condo and then buy a $400k four room hdb flat. You will have about $2m of investable funds. You can invest in 5% dividend yield basket of blue chips which gives you dividends of $100k pa. This is a lot for a family which is debt free.

You can easily retire now in Malaysia. You can convert your S$2.5m to RM and you get RM6.9m. You're a multi millionaire! You don't have to downgrade your lifestyle when you retire in Malaysia. You can upgrade your lifestyle instead. You can live in a big bungalow with a huge swimmng pool and employ 2 or 3 maids. You will retire like a big boss tycoon!!

Feels wasted if both give up the HH $28k per month

But then in return. Get freedom and not stress from the office politics.

Which is worth if for mid 40s??

Nothing feels better than being financially independent and retired. Doesn't matter at what age. The earlier the better as you never know when you will die. You can surely retire now, just need to live a simpler life.

Would the wife be interested to earn $1000 extra per month?

Two years ago, I was at the brink of disaster regarding my physical and mental health. I was earning $180k pa but the work was hellish. I quit and took a break from work for a few months to regain my sanity. I then opted for a more sane job which gives me an income of $75k pa but I am much happier and my physical and mental health improved significantly. As they say, "health is wealth".

To adjust to my new income, I sold my landed home, cleared the outstanding mortgage, made a profit of $1m and bought a new 3 bedroom condo paying in full. I also cleared all my car and personal loans. Today I am debt free. My wife earns $95k pa and our combined income of $170k is enough for our family of four as our expenses is now only $110k pa. Our expenses are reduced as we no longer have debt. We now save $60k pa. Our total net worth is now $2m. We hope to retire in 10 years time when we reach 55.
