Please don't generalise and don't insult others in professions that you feel are beneath you.

A car salesman job is still a job that is legal and can feed a family. Car salesmen are there because there is a need for them.

As long as one works hard and honestly there is no shame to be in any profession that is legal and purposeful.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Always practice this: Be kind and magnanimous when wealthy and healthy because you never know when your turn will come to be at the bottom of the heap!

When indicating the per annum salary here, does it include the bonuses or simply just 12 mths of salary?

Our combined salary is $105k pa. We are a working couple who works very hard. We are lucky to be able to afford an EC. We upgrade our lifestyle and social status when we move into our EC.

We are usually referring to the total income for the year comprising:-

1. Gross monthly (including employer's CPF contribution) x 12
2. 13th month contribution
3. Gross bonus (eg 2 x monthly gross salary)

So for a guy earning $10k per month, his employer CPF contribution would add a further $700 per month or total of $10.7k. If his bonus is 2 months, his total annual pay would be $10.7k x 15 = $160.5k.

Couple working in the commercial sector, 48/42. Total income, $195k pa. Savings, $30k pa. Bought a condo now worth $1.2m. Mortgage outstanding, $700k. Owns a 2.4L continental car, no loan. Children are in primary school. We live a modest middle class lifestyle. Holidays to Asian countries, twice a year. Total net worth, $1.3m.

Any comments whether we can retire at 65? How much is enough? How much do we need every month as retirement income in 20 years time?

This is rather an inflated view.
Employer's CPF contribution - forget it - goes to dear CPF
Employee's CPF contribution - kill me - takes away chunk of my own salary and goes to dear CPF

I would rather look at take home salary (salary credited to our bank accounts) as the real salary. This is the liquid cash available to us, which we use for our expenses.

Whatever goes to CPF , part of it can be used for house loan repayment. However, the catch is that CPF calculates "interest" on the amount that we use from our own CPF account. And this amount has to be paid back to CPF if we plan to purchase another property. I can't understand why we have to pay back the "interest" too. Wasn't CPF supposed to be our money?
