I found an article that describe the types of millionaires in Singapore, I guess the millionaires I know are not those of a average Singaporean? We all have different circles within the circle I guess.

://.forbes.com/sites/neerjajetley/2013/09/27/anatomy-of-a-singapore-multi-millionaire-a-new-wealth-report-busts-many-myths/

Can you define how you see someone of a lesser means living like a millionaire, surely buying a 200K conti does not make one so? Any dual income middle to senior management can easily plonk one down and still maintain a decent lifestyle condo living?

But there definitely people who beyond their means, there are those who buy it for the badge, and others who buy it because they are enthusiast. The latter group I have sympathize with, I mean I don't see people ragging on bungee jumpers who risk their lives for a thrill.

How should this man be judged throwing away 125K on a flight simulator? I believe people don't judge him purely because they don't yearn to have flight simulator at home.

Singapore is such a judgmental society with everyone finding reasons to look down on each other, its really just jealously. Matter of time before the decay sets in, actually seems like its already started.

What is sad though, are the people of lesser means trying to live like a millionaire.

These not so financially-sound people often justify to themselves that they only live once and squander away their money without much thought to the day when they can no longer earn an income. Then they become "parasites" to society depending on charity. This is where the true millionaires stepped forward and helped them out through their generosity.

I know it is difficult not to be judgemental, but I see different people taking different paths in life but somehow our lives are all intertwined.

At one time in my life I also subscribed to the "YOLO" mantra. YOLO = you only live once. I bought a condo, bought conti cars, went on expensive holidays -- but I found it all rather empty (not to mention that my bank account was also empty).

Now, I am happy with my trusty Jap car, still staying in my condo and counting the ever growing net worth.

Today we will know how much Cat A COE will rise to. Will it be $68k or $70k or $75k?
For Cat B, will it be $75k? or $78k or $80k?

You can feel the excitement. Many people rushing to secure their new cars before the lunar new year. They know the longer they wait the higher will be the COE. By end 2015, Cat A will go to $80k and Cat B will go to $90k.

Yes agree. Can't wait to see the show time when it drops below $50k.

COE prices will start moving up from 3.30pm onwards. The excitement will start then.

Many are rushing to buy now because price will go higher in 2015 & 2016.

Just checked the Onemotoring website. CAT A COE currently at $65K, CATB at $67K. Open CAT still at $1. Got chance or not?

Not likely to happen unless there is economic crisis. Right now economy still strong.

The other reasons:

1. Car population growth cut to 0.25% per year. May be cut further as more MRT lines open
2. Gahmen will spread out bumper COE over longer period to stabilise the supply.
3. More older workers working longer. Those who have not thought of buying and retiring by 55, now decide to buy car because got money from CPF and at the same time still continue to work
4. See more families with 2 cars.
5. People scrapping cars are buying replacement cars
