I get a real laugh every now & then reading the posts in this thread and the other on "what's your net worth?" The posts can be really funny.

Keep them coming.

Dean is on a distinguished road
Default Manager

Just to help everyone get back to the forum topic, here is my stats

Job - Manager
Experience: 10 yrs
Annual Pay (+bonuses): 129k

I agree that years of experience should be stated, so that it gives a sense on context.

I read all these posts about people in their mid 30s earning above 5k p/m and I'm really impressed.

I'm a 31 yr old IT grad (no honours) working in IT for the education industry (6 yrs). I earn about 36k per annum and I've never been offered anything more than 3.2k at interviews. I have many letter of commendations and won awards like outstanding employee etc.. Planning to do my MSc once i can afford it. What am I doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong, it is what the high earners are doing right.

For eg, are you aware that fresh grad engineers with good honours are earning close to $4k per month or more (for first class honours) in the civil service, uniformed service and stat boards? With average 3 months bonus thrown in we are looking at $64k pa already. These people are only 25 yrs old. By 31, can you imagine what they would be earning? Those with high potential would already be in managerial positions earning much much more.

You are doing just fine. Wait for another 4 years and you will be 35 and if you are still single, you can buy a 2 room BTO flat. With such a low pay, you can get grants and you pay very cheap. After MOP, you can sell and get profits of $200k. Then you can move in back with your parents and keep $200k in cash. This is the way the poor can get rich.

My sincere condolences. I can share with you how it feels to be poor. I'm 48 and I only earn $35k pa. The only source of income I get is from my condo rental. I tried getting back to working and earning my previous $250k pa job, but to no avail. I can't take up taxi driving and do menial work as it is degrading to me and my profession. So I have to live a frugal life. Luckily my two condos (one I stay in and the other one I rent out) are fully paid up. Even though I am asset rich, I am cash poor. I have to ensure my annual spendings do not exceed $35k. I wish we have unemployment benefits here as I contribute tons of $$$ when I was working. People like me should not be forgotten for our tax contributions. We have fed the poor, now it is time we are helped. Are there any schemes to help low income people like me? Life is tough.
