There was an eye surgeon MP who said:

"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity."

So the CEO you cited doesn't have much dignity.
Both have a point.. If you look at SGX listed companies' annual report, you can see a lot of C-suite in local listed companies earning $350-500k with the top guy earning $750l-1m.
Next are the GLCs whose C-suite are around $1-2m range with the top guy in the $4-5m range.
Of course this is in general because there are local banks on a another level and those family-owned companies (eg Genting) that pays their Chairman a shitload of money.

You cannot compare this to lawyers, hedge fund traders, investment bankers and even software engineers... heck, even the top property agent can earn $1m in comms in a year.

The difference is longevity in the job.. can you maintain the high stress level and endless targets until you are 67?

According to .drwealth.com/top-10-highest-paid-ceos-in-sgx-listed-companies-2021/ who analyzed the financial reports of SGX-listed companies.

Quote:
emunerations for CEO / Key Director of SGX-listed companies in 2021

Of the 675 SGX-listed companies I analysed, 106 did not make the cut because they either did not publish a report in 2021 or did not provide enough wage information about their key executives for me to make a reasonable guess.

Here are the stats:

5 CEOs or key directors had remunerations of more than $10M.
16 CEOs or key directors had remunerations between $5M and $10M.
165 CEOs or key directors had remunerations between $1M and $5M.
215 CEOs or key directors had remunerations between $500,000 to $999,999.
128 CEOs or key directors had remunerations between $250,000 to $499,999.
40 CEOs or key directors had remunerations of less than $250,000.
As for Doctors, from idealmedhealth.com/best-salary-of-doctors-in-singapore/ :
Quote:

House officer $3,600-5000
Medical officer $4500-9,000
Registrar $7000-12,000
Consultant $15000-20,000
Emeritus consultant $10,000-20,000

Cardiologist $12,000-20,000
Dermatologist $8,000-15,000
Allergist $8,000-15,000
Clinical Psychologist $12,000-18,000
Forensic Pathologist $12,000-20,000
Neurologist $8,000-18,000
General Medical Practitioner $8,000-18,000
Obstetrician / Gynecologist $5,000-12,000
Ophthalmologist $5,000-12,000
Pediatrician $5,000-15,000
Anesthesiology $5,000-12,000
Gastroenterology $5,000-15,000
Orthopedics $8000-18,000
ENT $5000-15,000

So, that is 675 listed companies, which being listed, means that they are typically of reasonable size. Granted that there are large companies and foreign companies that are listed elsewhere or privately owned, I think it should give a sensing of what are the realistic salary ranges of top earners in Singapore.

Also, noted that these are probably the top 1000 or so earners in Singapore and not just the top 10% of income tax payers in Singapore.

There are definitely people who earns more than $200K per annum or even $5M. It's just how many of them exists in Singapore, and how many of them are actually around in this forum.

Doctors don't make so little, especially those in private practice. Your data also miss a whole lot of high earners in the financial sector.

Government data don't lie. Go to Iras and dig out the YA2021 numbers:

There were 6,527 resident taxpayers making more than $1M in assessable income, Mdm Halimah one of them.

And there were 21,858 making between $500K and $1M.

Your "probably" top 1000 is definitely way off the mark.

Haha... if the salaries posted in this thread can be trusted,
Singapore would be the country with the highest average salary.
Just like in some other forums where almost everyone claims they own 20K

We are even above US and Australia!

People who make more tend to show off more. Personally, I find the salaries posted here believable, but these posters don’t represent the general population.
