May I know what’s your current job that you can earn over 10K monthly? I’m just 3 yrs younger than you and just started earning 4K monthly. Doubt I can catch up with your current earning 3 years later.

45% bonus in 2020? Isn’t this on the low side considering funds performance last year? May I know what’s your fund AUM?

My organisation manages a few Trillion USD in total. Only a few manage at this magnitude so you'll easily guess which.

As for funds performance - I suppose you might not be in the fund management industry if not you'll know about hurdle rates and watermarks. The absolute return matters much less than the relative return to benchmark. The HYC FI fund i'm part of hit just a few bps above benchmark, net fees.

But if you're talking about the IB space where IPOs have had a stellar year, then i'd agree its on the low side.

But i take your point. Need to earn more to catch up then.
60k to 160k in 5 years is impressive. Can you share more on your progression as it doesn’t look like you started in front office? Do you also mind sharing the specific role as portfolio management, research, strategy, etc all fall under the fund management umbrella?

27-29: Mezzanine Financing at an international Bank. Left earning exactly 73k.

29 - 32: Investment Analyst at the current fund. Got very fortunate jump to 100k when i first joined. Promoted at 30 to Senior Assoc. Promoted at 32 to portfolio manager, which included a pay adjustment up to 160k.
Maybe just a quick footnote here: i am the beneficiary of my current portfolio manager going back to her home country, and her putting in a recommendation for me to take her role.

Started at 27 because I undertook my MFE over at CMU right after local undergrad here in SG. But don't think this has any bearing on promotion trajectory

How many of you feel that Singapore has declined significantly over the last decade? Stagnant pay not keeping up with inflation (except for politicians), rising GST tax and threat of future income taxes raises, rising hdb prices, cecas threatening to take our professional jobs, murderous crazy teens running amok in our midst, and such.

If you ask me ten years ago if I could see Singapore in such a sad state, I would have laughed in your face. Or do we just pop a xanax and see everything through rose-tinted glasses as we were taught in schools to do?

I agree to a certain extent. This is a bottomless pit. Only with more manpower then our gdp can keep going up. So more and more people competing for jobs.

In term of happiness, i am happier than the past though as I managed to grab the opportunity that comes with the recent performance by our economy (pre covid). I am now semi retired at 40. Majority of the time are spend on sending kids to school, exercise, do what i like.
