Don't come to govt sector. Work hard also no use. They keep telling u your pay very high.
Can barely afford my kids' local university fees and allowance.

160k is much higher than the median income in SG. should be able to easily afford kids uni fees no? especially if it is not overseas education? or am i grossly disconnected from reality. i assume you are mid 50s? and do u have a spouse who is working?

Singapore is in big trouble if someone with your comp does not have a comfortable life.

That’s why one should never go for civil service. If just aim to stay in a mass market condo, maybe can go for CS. If want a life of luxury, landed housing or condo in prime location, go for private. The sky’s the limit.

Is $160k a lot? Somehow, I don’t think so for a mid 50s. Anyway, I don’t pay kids’ U fees using Cpf. I don’t want them to be burdened with the debt when they start work.

"Gross
Monthly Income
( Excluding Employer CPF )" Total
Total 2,154.9
Under $500 41.2
$ 500 - $ 999 102.2
$ 1,000 - $ 1,499 210.1
$ 1,500 - $ 1,999 186.1
$ 2,000 - $ 2,499 200.0
$ 2,500 - $ 2,999 163.0
$ 3,000 - $ 3,999 309.3
$ 4,000 - $ 4,999 223.0
$ 5,000 - $ 5,999 167.1
$ 6,000 - $ 6,999 106.4
$ 7,000 - $ 7,999 84.1
$ 8,000 - $ 8,999 67.2
$ 9,000 - $ 9,999 47.1
$10,000 - $10,999 54.3
$11,000 - $11,999 29.6
$12,000 & Over 164.1

Based on 2018 data, if you earn above 12k monthly gross, you are top 7.62% which I think is quite comfortable in Singapore. If not, what will happen to those below than him?
