Don't get me wrong, I want people to trade especially in Singapore stocks because sgx will get a cut. And I have 25 lots of sgx shares.

I have yet to come across anyone who have consistently beaten the market through trading. People will boast about the big profits but kept very quiet when they are stuck or when they sold with big loss.

On the other hand, I know people who managed to bag multi-baggers, myself included, through buying good stocks and holding for the long term.

And I know if you are only able to make $100k profit, you are a small player who can only hope to catch the wave created by the big boys. Missed the wave or be on the wrong of the wave, and your $100k pa profits will be become losses.

That is the point isn't it? I have no clue that's why I was asking about how reliable and dependable it was that people could live off the profits from just trading.

And all you reply was a one liner. Doesn't say very much for traders.

Can any real trader step forward and shed some light on how they are feeding their families by trading or should I say outwitting Mr Market? Ex colleagues of mine have tried their hands on full time trading after losing their jobs but without success. They said they wouldn't have tried it out if their wives were not holding full time jobs.

On the other hand, I am well aware of retirees living comfortably off dividends from stocks whether market is up or down.

Well, any real traders out there who can share?

Don't confuse professional fund managers with your neighbour/friend/ex-colleague who lost his job and is trading with his own money.

Professional fund managers make his money from investors. For those trades where he make millions, he get extra bonuses. When he loses your money he blamed on it on Mr Market and he still charge you for his commission.

Our retirement plan is to invest in the CPF Life so that we will get income every month from our CPF Life. We can expect to get $3600 per month as a couple at 65. We will also save and get dividends of $2000 per month. Our children will give us $1000 per month. So, in total our passive income will be $6600 per month or $79,200 per year.

We give $1400 per month in total to both my parents and her parents. This is in 2015.

In 20 years time, I think if our two kids give us $1000 in total (ie only $500 each), I think it is not too much ask. You agree?

I don't give money to my parents on a monthly basis. They get a very high pension every month.

No wonder you can save a lot

We have also benefitted from the property market. We sold our landed property with a very big profit and downgraded to a three-bedroom condo. This allows us to retire. We invested our cash after paying in full for the condo. We are now earning a nice passive income for us to retire comfortably.
