Although many people making its way to parliament houae this week, the car showroom traffic haa not slowed down... Look like COE will continue to head north after the big event this Sunday, people are speculating for snap election, and after govt wins again, the quota clawback will starts!!

Was surprised to learn that a few of my friends now have 2 cars in the family. 2 of them are staying in HDB flats while the rest are staying in condos. The surprise was because they were always talking about the high cost of owning cars here and trying to save money here and there. Now they also have 2 cars! All their wives are working.

I think nowadays owning a car is the basic expectation. To differentiate yourself from your neighbour you must own 2 cars. If this is the kind of thinking people have now, then it will be hard for the COE prices to fall.

My wife and I have had our own cars since the day we got married 25 years ago. Between us, together we had owned a total of 10 cars, all Jap cars. We tried before, but it was hard to give up cars. We recently bought new cars, which will probably be our last. They will have to serve us till we retire and beyond.

Lucky you and your wife, you must have benefitted from Lee's governance.

Yes, we did. And that's why my family and I endured a 4 hrs queue to pay our last respect to him at Parliament House. It was a small effort on our part to thank him and say our last good bye to a great man and leader.

You made a wise choice to go for the Altis. It is spacious and most importantly a very reliable car. Just pump petrol, and turn on the ignition and off you go. I have heard enough horror stories of European cars.

Enjoy your car!

50/ 52 middle income couple, annual income $180k pa. Saves $50k pa.
Bought our condo in 2003 at $600k, now paid up and worth $1.2m.
Own a one year old car, paid up. Current market value $100k.
Cash and CPF savings in total $500k.
Total net worth $1.8m.
How do we fare when compared to our peers?

Have you no self-confidence that you need to compare with your peers?

It's not about self confidence. Just curious where we stand, whether we are average or below average among those in the same age group. Currently there is no such data on household net worth by age.

It does not matter how you fare among your peers. As long as you own a condo and a car in Singapore, you are considered blessed and lucky. Only about 15% of Singaporeans own and live in a condo. What's more, you have no more loans on both your condo and car. This is a big achievement in Singapore's context. So tell yourself that you have made it good in Singapore. You have achieved the Singapore Dream!
