It can't be helped. There are at most 10 - 15 visitors to this forum. Posters have to take on different personas to provide variations and flavor to the posts.

My recurrent theme :-

1. Condo living is good
2. High savings
3. High net worth
4. Work as long as you can
5. High passive income
6. Don't compare with others. Be happy with what you have
7. Come from poor background
8. Have 2 cars
9. Kids graduated
10. Every year worked can lead to savings of 3 years of living expenses
11. Want to age in place, don't want to downgrade lifestyle
12. Not easy to retire in Thai, M'sia or other less developed countries because they also don't want poor retirees
13. Retire early, need more money, but less savings. Retire later, need less money but have savings.

There are always recurring themes in everything if you look hard enough.

Politics:
- more good years.
- raise productivity.
- increase population to compete globally.

Life:
- stay healthy.
- we all die eventually.

Happy New Year!

Default When we retire

We really enjoy staying in a condo because of the beautiful landscaping and the amenities.

We realized that living in our landed home had a few disadvantages: (1) many cars parking at the road side creating a congested space and an eye sore (2) neighbors looking into your home from their balconies (3) people looking into your homes when they walk pass by (4) costly maintenance (5) high utilities bills (6) dogs barking (7) no security (8) salesmen and property agents knocking on your door. The only good thing about landed property living is the space inside.

When my wife and I retire, we plan to retire in a condo because we love condo living. We rather downgrade to a small studio condo unit than moving to a bigger HDB flat. The downgrade then allows us to get cash for us to invest in the stock market for dividends. For instance, if we sell our condo at $1.8m, we then buy a studio condo unit for $800k, we will have $1m cash to buy dividend stocks which can give us dividends.

We realized that living in our landed home had a few advantages: (1) we can park many cars in our compound (2) people walk pass looking into our home to admire (3) DIY little maintenance cost (4) high standard of living (5) keep 5 dogs (6) private security with Gurka (7) Driver by the side. The only not so good thing about staying in too big landed property is must communicate with family members using hand phone.

When my wife and I finally retire, we plan to retire in a condo not because we love condo living. We rather stay in a small studio condo unit rather than moving to a even bigger bungalow in the park. I will be able to see my wife every moment as and when I like, minus the telephone communication as what we are doing now. We then buy a studio condo unit for $800k, we will have $100m cash to buy dividend stocks which can give us dividends.

Market timing is everything in investments. If you time the market well, you will be rewarded well.
