I don't think my neighbors will have big cars as most are HDB upgraders. Those who have cars will likely have ordinary cars. I drive a 2L continental car, paid up.
[QUOTE=Unregistered;57736]I think you missed the whole point of condo living. There is a whole world of benefits to enjoy staying in a condo and deriving social status from it should rank the lowest of the lot.
In fact you should not be staying in a condo if your sole purpose is to look good to your friends/relatives. If you are financially not sound, you will end up miserable and full of regrets.
Another thing you will find is that most, if not all your neighbors will have cars, big cars and more than one. Will you be able to accept that?

You're missing his point, from your post its clear you like to look down on people,
I invest in Condo's but fortunately I don't stay in them which is good to avoid people like you, Landed properties gives us privacy and yes its fully paid too!

I feel depressed when I read about all the high earners here. We are both earning only $7k in total every month and we live in a 4 room HDB flat. We are now 47, 48. Do you think we can ever move to a condo? How much per month do you need to earn to be able to live in a condo. Pls help. Thank you.

It is hard to say how much more you need to be able to live in a condo as that is a factor of your networth and savings and not just your income.
However, you can see for the link below what is the average household income by type of dwelling to get a sense what others are earning.

Cheer up ! this forum is good for amusement but the salaries are not representative of whole of Singapore . If we ever get to know who are doing the posting, we may have all have a big laugh !

Either big laugh or cry.
Why I say this is because I am a nobody, used to stay in HDB and thought everyone same as me. Then I upgraded to condo (long time dream) and my eyes opened up wide wide. People around me like very rich, drive big cars, some neighbours own more than 1 condos,
and retirees still driving and going for golf games. I can imagine their passive income more than my pay.
Some of the postings (boastings) are obviously for laugh, but I would not rule out others as not true. Using my income as reference and looking at my bosses at various levels, I find some of the postings credible. Eg two professionals married to each other -SVP in bank and Director in Civil Service can easily earned combined income of $600K pa. I know one of my bosses earn over $300K pa and wife is an AD in Stat board.

I am not suggesting laughing because the postings are not true reflection of the individual whom is posting it.
I am laughing because if you are saying that this forum is representative of the whole of Singapore , then you must be saying that our government and all information and analysis posted so far is wrong. And on this point, i am laughing...
In the example you have given, you quoted a director in civil service which is a MX9 grade and only 1.2% of civil servant are in this grade and above.
See DPM response to WP questions in 2012 about the MX9 grade and the elitism of the grade.
http://www.psd.gov.sg/content/dam/ps...%20Jan2012.pdf
So yes while it is possible individuals can be very rich and they are always posting here, i doubt this forum is a representative of the general wage level of singaporeans.
And if this forum is attracting our top 1.2% to post here everyday.. wow.. we finally figure out what our bosses are doing most of their time ! ha ha

i think the laughable person is yourself. this forum is obviously a discussion forum with relatively older (or euphemism: matured) white collar professionals than other forums. you can tell by the posts and the tone of the posts. in contrast, if you look at hwz, you will know it's filled with a much younger crowd. then there are other forums like sbf, etc.
how then would you even consider the question of whether this place is "representative" of the "whole of singapore"?

You are wrong. Now I am laughing at you.
You have been posting your story over and over again. Never once did i see you post anything other than your make up story.
When i post , i provide links and back it up with other material and links.
Show me proof this is a more matured group.

The median household income (typically two working adults) is $7.8k pm so the median income per person is $3.9k. As long as you earn $4k pm and lives in a 4 room HDB flat, you are ok. If you earn more and lives in a condo, you are then among the top earners in Singapore. Only the top 15% lives in a condo or landed.
Anyway, just be happy with what you have. Look at those with lesser and not those with more, so that you feel contented. Life is short, don't fuss too much about what you have. Just look at those poor people in many developing countries and you will feel very fortunate to be born here.
People here complain about COE prices, condo prices, everyone wants to buy a car and condo, whereas in poor countries they struggle everyday to survive. Many are hungry and homeless. We should care for these people and not caught up with our petty desires and lust.
