You can supplement that by driving for Grab?

It is difficult for us to give you advise without much info - for eg., your age, qualification, got driving license or not, single or married with children etc...

If you are below 40, I may advise you to go for skills upgrading and move up the management ladder in your security job. Some enterprising people even set up their own company to provide security services.

Male, 49. Retired from the corporate world to take care of my health. Over the many years of hard work, I have saved and invested in various assets. I get my passive income from these long term investments.

I now spend my time managing my investment portfolio, doing research, reading, volunteering at charities, working on improving my health, spending more time with my family, watching the latest movies and exercising in my condo gym.

Life is short. You only live once on this temporary earth. Don't spend all your life accumulating wealth. You will not bring your wealth to the grave. Give back to society. Donate generously to charity. Contribute your time to meaningful voluntary charity work. Take care of your health. Be grateful with what you have. Seek true happiness.

Owing to some lucky decisions made a few years ago, our combined income is about $3m-$6m. 2017's combined income was $5,035,500. We are both running a series of businesses, so income varies depending on biz performance.
Currently staying in a town condo, bought last year for $3.8m, fully paid
Another 2 city fringe condo bought in 2014 and 2015 for $1.5m and $2.2m respectively, both fully paid.
Own 2 shops bought in 2016 for $4.5m
Own 3 cars, combined purchase price $650k
Liquid savings - $1m
Equities - $5.5m
Other investments/alternative investments - $1m

Just lucky and glad to have found something we both believe in and are working very hard in

I retired 5 years ago after many years of working in the corporate world. After years of saving and successful investing, I have build up enough wealth for me to retire as my passive income exceeds my expenses comfortably. I currently spend my time managing my wealth and looking for new investment opportunities to grow my portfolio. Like any good investor, I managed my risk carefully, balancing welath preservation and growth.

Any kind soul willing to help me through this few days and next month expenses please? I just found a job with $2k salary payment a month

Unregistered 29-07-2018 10:35 AM

Life is not all about earning lots of money. I made enough to retire in my mid forties to pursue a life of humility and service to the less fortunate. I live humbly in my 3 bedder condo. I drive an old car.

Status Update: 2 Years Later .. 2016 - 2018

Hello everyone, after a long drag of (approximately) 2 years since my last post in 2016 #9982 link, here is an update on my persona.

A pitch is definitely avoided.. My current endeavors of retirement planning didn't see a light, however. So, I've decided on equipping with the right knowledge and progress in my business. How do I check my credit history? Many a times, I often got lost during the process of "flushing money" into the drain. Now decided to buckle up either on my wage scheme or pursue my business line.

Instead of retiring at age of 55, the retirement life cycle faces a compression in today's context - recently spotted a YT video demonstrating a young toddler earning 11M a year - proving that the trend has absolutely changed upon being an entrepreneur.

Sincerely wishing everyone a pay raise to match inflation rate this year :p

I am graduated from NTU engineering in year 2009 and started work in Dec 2009. Could not even get a 3rd class honours. Currently earning 135kpa.

There is no fixed formula on how much you should be earning based on years of experience and type of education. You should be looking at your industry, job responsibility, knowledge gained etc.

you are the most successful person in this forum because you are able to retire at 44 years old. you own a paid up private condo. many people at that age are still working to clear their hdb loan. everyone in this forum cannot afford to retire at 44 except you. many in their fifties here still need to work. you are a Crazy Rich Asian! Respect!

Your feelings are not unfounded. 80K/year is the average for engineering degrees with 5 years of working experience. With 10 years of experience, it should be closer to 160K/year.

From the comments here and on other threads, I learnt 2 things about the ceca community and sinkies' reactions:

1. Ceca has reach a critical mass whereby one feels comfortable sharing sensitive materials and / or performing actions which are either controversial or disrespectful to the host nation. In their large communities here, we are probably viewed by them as the "foreigners".

2. Sinkies are becoming very cynical like the jiuhu kias because they are being marginalised by the Gahment. Everyone is still so sceptical about the guy not being with DBS.
