very true, even for typical farmer graduate couples, say they both hit 6k basic, an assume 16months per annum package, that's 96k each, and 192k combined. By mid-thirties, most can hit around this figure.

This is the face of the typical middle class in Singapore right now. It's definitely more than enough to go by, but do not expect to own a few properties and drive a nice big conti car..

So an expat earning 300k on local terms (no special housing, car and school allowances), with wife not working but kids going to international schools, and renting a CCR condo, is actually worse off than local farmer graduate couples. He also attracts a higher tax because there's no QCR ad WMCR for him.

(Local-term packages are the norm nowadays.)

So, don't need to suck up to ang mohs. They are quite poor actually.

Think office intern and the image of someone young who is poorly paid and does menial tasks comes to mind.

But that was not the case for Mr Y. Zhou, 27, who did a summer internship at an investment bank in Hong Kong in late 2010. He got a monthly stipend of about US$6,000 (S$7,500) - more than what some fulltime employees in other sectors earn here. The Singaporean was in his third year at an American university then.
my boss only getting sgd$6.5k after 18 years exp in GLC, he is a degree holder and a consistent top 5% performer too

I wouldn't say they are poor.. Anyone earning 300k on any terms is definitely not poor.. Whichever the case, yes you definitely do not need to suck to them or anyone else for that matter..

Well, many Singaporeans especially young adult females of a particular variety (or breed), suffers from the Pinkerton syndrome, also known as 崇洋症 in Chinese.

They thought ang mohs are rich and superior. The fact is that many of those making 300k a year are actually living from hand to mouth literally.

Wake up. 100k is the new 50k. 100k is not the benchmark to have a lifestyle choice of condo and continental car. It is a benchmark of a typical middle class living in HDB in Sengkang and a japanese car.
I am earning less than 100k, but I managed to own two properties. One freehold penthouse at east coast, one overseas freehold landed.

That must be pretty demoralizing for you unless you strongly believe you can do a lot better than your boss in a much shorter period.

This is pretty stale but to set the record straight. Investment banking interns earn much higher than SGD6.5k. Investment banks pay interns well so that they can spread the word and hopefully cause an exodus of applications. A small cost to the firm since we only pay interns to work for short stints. My bank pays interns SGD10k a month. No kidding.
