Position doesn't matter as long as the pay is there. Maybe some get an ego boost or whatever ordering people around as a manager but in this times it's best to aim pay. One month of salary earned is still one month of salary in the pocket. Who knows when you log into work and find yourself locked out.

You both have done well as a retired couple. You own your flat and I assume no debt. Your passive income is more than your expenses so you have achieved financial independence.
Much better than those who earn $10k pm but spends $20k pm. It’s not about how much you earn but how much you spend.

Their total work output for the day is maybe an hour of barking out instructions/asking people to do stuff for them. Even if you gave them benefit of doubt that they were hardworking in their younger days, right now they are undeniably being a deadweight.

Fully agree. Seen enough if such managers climb by carrying balls
and eggs.

You can carry all the balls and eggs you want but the question is, who laid the eggs?

This is amazing. Preparing for retirement is easy. Just need to clear your HDB mortgage and have CPF Life. No need to work so hard. You don’t need millions to retire.

We can retire next year when I’m 55. We can sell our condo for $1.2 mil and then buy a 3 room HDB flat for $300k pay in full cash. We will then have cash of $900k which we can place in FD giving us 4% pa or $36k pa ($3k pm). This is for our retirement expenses. At 65, we will get $5k pm combined, so our passive income will grow to $8k pm or $96k pa. We can then travel the world in holidays. This is our early retirement plan!

Wow! You’re a millionaire! Well done!
My spouse and I live simply.
We also can retire at 55 years old.
Our flat is fully paid.
We have some cash savings.
We will spend the cash from 55 to 65.
Then at 65, we get $4500 per month.

Let me chip in with our finance situation
Me and wife are 52 this year. We are fortunate to be gainfully employed with global MNC ever since we graduated
Managed to paid up 2 private properties
Stay in $2.5 mil
Rental $1.6 mil
CPF all accounts $1.5 mil
Cash and stocks $1 mil
We intend to work till 55 and then retire happily after that
Life is good. We are contented.
