Like that we also can retire at 55. Sell our condo and downgrade to a HDB flat. Can get $500k plus our CPF $200k we have $700k to spend for our retirement. Some more we will get $5k pm from our CPF Life when we reach 65.

You guys do know that to earn an annual income of $250K, the person would be somewhere near a VP-level or C-suite of a MNC, right?

No. actually that's 1-2 yoe comp for bulge bracket IBD or 5-6 yoe consulting. Or 3-4 yoe SWE in FAANG.

Just to share an update of my financial situation:

Age: 44, 42

Income tax for FY2018: $115K, $11K (wife's tax bill significantly increased from 2014 cos of $80k cap on reliefs).
Savings: $3.6m (adding around $650K per year not counting investment returns, as I mentioned we save 45% of MONTHLY income plus whatever is left over from spending the bonus)
Networth: $7.3m at end 2018.


It's been a while since I logged in to this forum. Another 4 years have passed. Our latest info as follows:

Age: 47, 44
Family: wife with 2 kids, aged 15 and 12
Work: both STILL in financial industry, STILL in a support function (so not your banker, salesperson, trader etc)
Total income: $800K, $272K
Residence: Upgraded to FH Semi-D in Oct 2021 and sold off our leasehold terrace and 5rm HDB.
Car: 3.5yr Conti ride.
Income tax for FY2022: $140K, $14.4K (wife's tax bill significantly increased from 2014 cos of $80k cap on reliefs).
Savings: $5.1m
Networth: $9.2m currently.

It will be good if you could give some advice to the younger people here on how we can try to become a high earning bank employee like yourself or even your spouse. Is it a special field? Did you work extremely hard?
