Age 41, total compensation : 260k/yr. Wife not working
Hdb fully paid.
Investment :
CCR condo worth 2m. Outstanding loan 1m. Rental income (4.5k/mth) is funding loan.
Sydney studio worth 600k. Loan funded by rental income (1.8k/mth)
Stocks : 250k (40k increment yearly)
Cash + short-term bond funds: 350k (80k increment yearly)
CPF : 250k (oa + sa)
Assuming I can still work at current compensation and live frugally until 55, my retirement plan at age 55 as follows. Will continue to live frugally in HDB, but will spend more on health, travel and charity.
- put cpf ERS for my wife and I . Will generate 3.8k/mth combined from 65 onwards
- build up a stock portfolio 1m with 4% dividend return. Around 3k/mth. At age 65, sell down and put all in gov bond funds that generate 2% return.
- build up bond+cash 1.5m with 3% return. Around 3k/mth
- rental income of 6k/mth.
On death, will all properties for legacy, and bonds+cash for charity.

Middle class, middle income couple in our late 40s. Our residence is a condo, 3 bedroom unit. We managed to pay off the mortgage.
Our total income as a couple is not much, only $180k pa. There are many couples earning more than $250k pa. However, we are happy since we are debt free and owns a luxury car too. Our middle class lifestyle is comfortable as we can also afford to travel for holidays twice a year.
Our retirement plan is to retire in place in our condo. Our retirement savings are mainly from our CPF, stocks and cash. We may retire in ten years time after our children starts working.

Male 34 years old single income household income of $165k (5 years of single income)
Own a 3 bedroom condo with mortgage loan 590k
Normally 2 overseas holidays each year. Does not own a car.
Planning to pay off condo by age 45 and get a second property if possible.
For retirement, I need to consider topping up wife's CPF and get combined payout.
Own at least one private property with one for stay, others for rental.

You are not mid middle class but upper middle class since you own and live in a condo. The top 20% live in private property. So you are in the top 20% of society SES. Congratulations on your achievement. I am also doing well because of the good system. I grew up in the mid middle class SES but now move up to high SES. I live in a condo and already retired in my mid 40s after a high flying career in the private sector. I now spend my time helping those in need to give back to society.

Your income is higher than 57% of taxpayers. So you are not low income. There are people your age who may earn less than you. For example a 50 year old manager may lose his job due to poor performance and may need to drive a taxi. He could only earn maybe $3k per month or $36k pa. You are earning $63k pa or $5.25k pm. You are earning a lot more than him. So be happy, don't complain.
