Are you the only child? As an only child you may have the advantage and benefit of choosing to stay with your parents and renting out your own property. Others do not have this choice.

However as an only child, you will have to bear the full responsibility of taking care of your parents as they grow old and frail. Taking care of their medical needs and bills!

Enjoy living with them now, but the time will come when you have to pay back.

My advice is, when young and able, should work as long as you can, save and invest.

You are talking as if if he were not staying with his parents now, he need not take care of them later.

Sole bread winner, 45, $140k pa. Both our 3 BR condo in OCR and car are fully paid up.

Current total net worth, $2m.

Retirement plan at 58

1. Retire in place in our condo.
2. Get passive income from our investments.
3. Get passive income from annuities.
4. Get passive income from CPF Life (from 65 onwards)
5. No maid.
6. No car (condo near an MRT station).

It is good to be earning low. Don't miss the chance to get a discounted property from ah gong, courtesy of BTO. Ah gong is putting 100-200k of money into your pocket for free, which you can "withdraw" in 5 years when MOP is up.

The EC costs about 300 K more ex also. Both locations not very accessible to train station.
