Default Top 100 jobs in Singapore (2007)

(5 July 2008 - See the 2008 edition of this list.)

(8 August - Updated with ranking of 3rd-quartile gross wages.)

This is the 2007 edition of my annual list of 100 best-paying jobs in Singapore. It is compiled based on data from MOM Occupational Wages Survey, which is published as part of the Report on Wages in Singapore 2006.

The 2006 edition of this post.

The survey covered more than 180,000 individuals, and their wage information is collected from CPF.

But note that the wage data do not include performance bonuses, profit sharing and stock options.

Without further ado, here's the list of the top 100 jobs based on the 75th-percentile basic monthly income (I don't use the mean or median income as I want my list to better reflect the higher earners in the top jobs):

The differences between gross and basic wages can be noted from the following, which I quote from the report:
Quote:
The spread between gross and basic wages was more pronounced among occupations which require payments for overtime, commissions and allowances (e.g. shift, food, housing and transport), such as sales & service workers and blue-collar workers where gross wages were about 15% to 40% higher than basic wages. On the other hand, there was little difference between the basic and gross wages among managers and professionals. Their variable pay usually takes the form of performance bonuses, profit sharing and stock options which are not captured in this survey.

MPs are not covered by the MOM survey. It's not found in the list of occupations in the report (page 271).
btw, the MP is actually a part-time appointment. Almost all MPs hold full time jobs. Hence an MP's total income should be much higher than $18,025/mth.

HH, unfortunately, it seems teachers are not covered by the MOM survey. Neither are civil servants and other public sector jobs.
The occupations closest to "school teachers" that are covered by the survey are "language school teacher" (3rd-quartile pay: $1,900) and "pre-primary education teacher" ($1,475).

That's funny. I am in the aviation industry working as an aerospace engineer and my pay is no where near $5000 (as stated in the table), in fact, MOST of all the engineers I know do not earn a basic that is higher than $4200. (And I have worked in 3 different aviation companies in Singapore. hhhmmm I really wonder where the figures come from)

Han, according to the MOM data, 790 aeronautical engineers are represented in the survey. The MOM report also mentions that the wage data come from CPF, so I think there's much accuracy - at least it's better than surveys that ask people to fill up forms.

btw, the mean (=average) basic pay of aeronautical engineers is $4,313. At the 25th-percentile, it's $3,090. Median is $4,031, while the 75th-percentile aeronautical engineer makes $5,063 (which is the value I used in the ranking).

Since the mean is higher than the median, we can infer that the pay distribution is skewed toward the higher income earners.
