If you want to make money, medicine does not really make business sense. Finance is a much, much better choice.

Don't simply follow parents or friends to study medicine. To a certain degree, parents want you to study medicine for family glory or 面子。

I may be a stranger to you. But I am possibly more honest than all people known by you.
Pls la. For every investment banker u read online and newspaper that earn 500k pa, there are 1000 more wannabe who is making Ur average salaryman money with fear of retrenchment every few years. U can be capable ish but get posted to a unit that some honcho in hq decide to shutdown to streamline the business , u still become jobless. If u young and hungry , maybe a bit pretty can still jump, but once u hit 40s, no one wants u liao.

Medicine u dun make it big ( saved for a few ) but as a cohort, the most beh gan guy still can make 10k as a chill 8 to 5 gp ,more if willing to work hard and have a job for life that is relatively resilient to financial crisis, covid. Even if war strikes , Ur skills set is still needed.

But drs are the creme de la creme. For every doctor you see there are 1000 more wannabe who couldnt make it to medical school. Point is doctors know their worth.they have to work very hard to get to become dr. But the pay off is pittance cimpared to the bankers.
Dont let these people bluff you. The bankers are scared of competition.

For doctors there is no bonus for performance of the actual work. Eg no bonus for actually treating patient and they recover. No bonus for succeasful surgery. None. Instead it works on the basis if you screw up then you get penalized. Oh and the go the extra mile is not in thinking hard how to heal this patient but what QI project or research paper to write. Just follow the guidelines do step by step. Works or dont work for patient doesnt matter make sure you follow the guiedline SOP. Also if you try soemthing out of rhe bix and it works no bonus if it goes awry you are ****ed. Very demotivating to actually try to be actual doctor who wants to gove patients results.
Whereas in banking......sometimes take risk. No your money. At most get fired. You decide the bonus worth risking job and future or not. If it works wah lau eh the bonus is so big your eyes pop out. Slow tortoise no fun lah and usually walk and walk then end up dead. Fast hare exciting an even sleep during the race!

No. The medical systems all over the world are controlled by governments ans society.
The goal is to keep doctors working for as long as they can. Get the most mileage out of every dr. Hence the pay structure is also designed for this purpose. Most doctors will have to work till they are very old. Medicine is not a get rick quick retire early type path. Makes sense. Why would we train drs for 20 years and have them work another 5 to 10 years and earn so much they can retire?

Only possible if you invest well or start your own business (e.g chain of clinic etc)

That haa nothing to do with being dr then. Investing? Thats finance and understanding stocks and derivatives Med school train and taught you that?
Chain of clinics. That's running biz. Is chain of clinics really the best biz to do? Again nothing go do with being dr. Maybe as a dr you have a bit more equity to start off with but then again on the face of things 100k is also not much.
What really helps is bonuses. In banking and finance you can have 6 months bonus in some cases thats 120k thrown into your account year end. Gosh. Thats some equity to work with.

Problem is you get so many non doc who crash the thread and go on and about salary.
Eg the thread above u that talks about 6 months bonus.
If he is a doctor he would have known that there are senior consultants who makes more than 20k a month and who gets 6 months bonus.

Just like so many non-lawyers crashing the law thread and making lawyers look bad
