The only time I would say going abroad to do medicine is better than in SG for a SGP is if they cannot get into local med schools.
Easier to specialise abroad? Stop listening to hearsay. If you can, you can.

not easier but if u have 3 options to specialise u have a statistically higher chance. SG, UK, Aus. Can’t do UK try SG can’t still can still go Aus have good life as psych, GP etc

Is it worth specializing in something more outpatient within IM like neuro/endo/rheum? Takes a few years to specialize then a few more years PHI before private - no guarantee can have loads of patients in private to make more than a GP (own clinic / aesthetics).
How does an average private doc in these comp with private GP? Is it 1/5 of the patient load while charging a few times more and turn out same income with much less stress?

Please go and look at the profiles of those IM subspec docs in Gleneagles. Most of them worked for at least 10/12 years as a C in PHI before they go private.
It’s not that easy as what u think. You need experience beyond just getting full specialist reg.
Salary of endo/rheum is around 450k a yr in private. Not an insane amount that you will expect.
I will say GP/aesthetics still the best in terms of effort vs reward ratio. Worse case u make 250k/yr as GP. Best case maybe 500k/yr in aesthetics. All you need is just a MBBS.

Lately I have seen a few specialists who left for private after 4-5 years after exiting residency, (i.e around mid 30s) some of them are cardiac interventionist, hf specialist, dermatologist, gastroenterologist. (So no real need to stay 10-15 years I feel, but more importantly must have connections)
