Psych is the best choice if you like long term care with patient plus good lifestyle outside work.
Training in UK now but back in Singapore for Chinese new holiday. It’s not that bad training in uk. You have a lot of paid leave up to 32 as a ST.
Many connected flights. London-Singapore. Manchester-Singapore.
You won’t feel homesick if you can schedule your leaves in a smart way. You can always fly back home for 7 days( paid leave + weekend) every 2 months if you really miss Singapore.

What’s the pay like if u locum and work extra? Also which psych subspec is the most lucrative. Considering doing london PP and then returning as a consultant rather than AC

Bro i am the one who wanted to switch career and then train in psych
But just wondering how to know if psych is something for me? I read that some people entered psych, did inpatient and see the scary things then decided to drop out.
I volunteered at mental facilities before but I am sure those we are allowed to see are much milder patients so not sure whether the extreme side of things are really tolerable

Most people practice in outpatient after they CCT. Even in training most of the outpatient ones are in CT. ST mostly outpatient depending on what you choose. Forensics the worst patient demographics because you mainly dealt with violent and sadistic individuals. Also have to issue a lot of section 12 there.
Child adolescence best subspec imo and also most competitive. You mainly deal with learning disabilities like ADHD, ASD

Does it mean I can minimize the inpatient to maybe just 1-1.5y if I do something like child or adolescent / geri? But i thought u are dual qualified with general psych anyway.
Also, since some can't stand these inpatient stuff, who actually choose to do it if pay is not higher (given fewer private outpatient opportunities) and it is more difficult to stand day to day

From what my colleagues tell me, they favor doing psychiatric assessments. One off encounters. Pays well. Send a letter with recommendations to the referring physician. Only choose very selectively the patients you want to take on longitudinally.
Pays better. Also less of feeling saddled with the difficult patients that no one wants.
The challenge is in getting enough volume of these type of assessment work.
