which is really true most of the time. think about it a med school education overseas cost at least 80k sgd in fees alone or around 400k-500k depending if its 5/6 years. add in living cost and food expenses easily a 700k-800k investment
no middle class family can afford that amount of money. no one will be crazy enough to sell their hdb flat/cash out cpf to send one kid to overseas med school
so comfortably the family must be at least upper middle class around 4M of networth if u assume they willing to spend 20% of their net worth on 1 kid's education. realistically you are looking at 10% meaning those kids who can afford to go overseas probably have like at least 8M family networth. which is very common. all the Singapore imgs in my cluster are upper class all living in landed

ok 700k means ur spending 60k a year on living costs that’s insane as a student even in london. It’s more like 500-550k. Ucl grad here so mine was around 600 something because i did 6 years. Never really got any bad vibes or hate from local med students tho but they would bash on aussie schools a lot

That should be the way going forward. Only rich people should be doctors. No need the money. Just really altruistic want to help people.
It will help keep health care costs low.
Historically the nobles were the ones given the privilege to study and practice medicine. And they chose who they would help.
Society should go back to this practice.

stupidest thing i’ve heard. Part of the reason being a doctor is so prestigious is because they make good money. After 1-2 batches of service no one will want to be a docotr anymore. Feel like this forum should have verification so non doctors can’t come talk rubbish

Not in the same wealth level as that girl, but I am living comfortably with a family networth of around 10M
Single son in the family so they pass their semi-d to me next time. Currently working as a locum GP making around 10k a month working around 3 days a week.
I find my lifestyle very enjoyable and meaningful because I don’t really spend on luxury. Except maybe for overseas holiday in business class/5* hotel. Other than that I find joy in simple comforts like hawker food. Basically still can save around half of my 10K locum income. Others like stock dividend/family investment all bonus and just reinvest and compound

Similar situation here with around 7-8m but I’ve always had a passion for my specialty and If i can use some of the capital to start a clinic i’d be very happy

Inflation bro.. my younger cousin doing her mbbs at KCL and she’s like spending 30k on student accommodation alone.
Bashing at Aussie schools? Lol the salary is way higher in Australia compared to uk even when in training. They start off at 70k a year as intern whereas in uk it’s more like £30,000 for FY1

30k on accom? Bro she staying in the hilton or what? Even student accom is around 150 pound a week and that’s zone 1. 600 pound a month or about 7.2k a year. Another 300-500 pound for living if ur frugal and that’s around 6k pound. That’s about 20-25k sgd + 80k in tuition. It’s still around 500-550k.
It’s not about the pay I think it’s just aussie grads seem to be perceived as having had lower A level results and struggling more in sg which is what gives them th unfortunate label

Those with bad A level results are the ones who had to spend an extra year doing foundation there.. if anything I think their deficit already made up through that extra year
Almost all the aussie on the list require at least AAB for entry. Think only Adelaide and UWA are more lax in requirement
