Can anyone shed light on salaries in private hospitals here? E.g IM, Paeds, Cardio, Surgical subspec etc. I recently saw on reddit that malaysian private specialists paeds can make 60-70k MYR = ~20k sgd. Which is similar to consultant pay in public hospital here. I would imagine private salaries are much higher in sg then?

Don’t compare Malaysia with SG. It’s a pathetic world out there in Malaysia. Yes it’s really that bad. Salary of a private GP in Malaysia is less than that of a registered nurse in Singapore after factoring in the exchange rate. That’s why medicine is dying in Malaysia. Who will want to spend so much time and money studying to be a doctor in Malaysia, when they can make more money as a school leaver plumber in Singapore?
Back to your question, the range is not fixed in private because you are running your own practice. But generally it’s at least 1.5-2 times higher than public.
60-70k MYR (20k)?? Lol.. even an AC in public makes more than that after factoring in clinical allowance/oncall/bonus… Shows you how badly bad doctors are in Malaysia. Even a private peds C only makes 20k a month…

Valedictorian of my class from Raffles did a MD-Phd programme. Book smart but very nerdy and clueless on financial literacy. He’s specialised in oncology and is working as a clinical scientist at A* now.
Meanwhile the guy who graduated the bottom of my class went on to study med in flinders Australia. And opens up 5 aesthetic clinics.
Book smart does not equal to wealth. That valedictorian knows nothing about investments. Try talking to him about stocks or crypto, he’s totally clueless. Saves his salary in a depreciating bank account. Truly 书呆子, 无药可治!

Surgical con can touch 400k at around 35-36 and SC 42-43 so it’s not too bad. Around 500-600k at 42-43 until 55 then retire not so bad
