That’s why just be a GP or aesthetic doctor. Less effort and intelligence needed. Can start investing earlier.

Can borrow money to invest. max out credit cards.

At what point do people give up on getting into residency and just become a RP or exit the public health system? Or should I be aiming for a less popular residency?

Most gave up during med school.. from my own experience. Most of my friends too entered medicine thinking it’s an easy way to make money. Until you start to realise the dredgery of clinical placements and exams. At this point, one can hardly fathom more years of hard work (residency).
Especially so when you see your classmates in other fields already married or buying houses. While you are still stuck in public and having to be on-call.

Unless they are doctors who have made millions not doing medicine trolling doctors who think they can make millions doing medicine.

In Medicine, do 1 of 2 options
option 1(if u are really solid):
Enter a residency for a well paying specialty, tough it out and eventually move to the private sector as a consultant. Save and invest judiciously throughout residency so u have money for capital requirements
option 2(if u are decent)
Train in aesthetics and leave PHI early. Make good money eaarlier and invest money into stock market/property/starting ur own clinic
both options will be great

Hi Im a dukie graduating soon and was wondering if anyone could advise on how best to plan my finances because im getting married soon + moving into my bto.
I am not so sure how much HOs earn nowadays (after calls around 5-6k?)
Wife is a civil servant working in a ministry for the past 4 years
Is HO pay sufficient to help pay the bills? Should I delay marriage for another year?

Most people here are average so they can only go for option 2. The real residency gunners and consultant wannabe won’t even be on this forum. They live breathe and eat medicine all day. Nothing else excites them not even money.
