Would like to seek some advice from the lao jiaos here. I have tried for ENT for 5 years but have not yet gotten in. Will the GPs here recommend to go private and do GDFM or continue trying for specialty training?
I would say my chances of getting in this year is 50-50% as there are fresher, new MOs willing to work hard and take calls. Although CV wise I think I am qualified (have my exams and publications ticked off).
My concern is that if I went private as a GP my knowledge will not be sufficient as I have done mostly ENT and surgical postings.
Will appreciate some advice!

38 this year, completing my hoship soon. Didn’t get into IM residency. Should I just join private after completing my bond. Or try applying for IM again, when I exit i am probably 45-46. Is it worth it ?

U dukie ah
U got in at 33?
I start med school at 30
Wanted to do IM and then endocrine
Rotate 1 year as mo
Realise cannot la
Night calls and weekend burnt up my soul
No time to myself. Become very unhappy with family
Thinking of the prospect of doing that for 3 years and then reg for 3 years I think I will give up
Did fam med.
Year 2 halfway no calls liao.
Exiting was hard but persist can.
Work 8 to 5
Now AC in polyclinic.
Not complaining.
The magical job where U make 500k a year chilling with 20 nice patient with non life threatening medical condition don't exist.

anyone feel like recently more and more residency spots going to "PRs"? guys who need not serve NS, meanwhile rest of us either spending 2 yrs serving the country or slogging it out as MOPEX
e.g. know one guy who came to SG 2022 as MO > engaged with singaporean wife from overseas med school > apply to competitive specialty in 2023 with no publication and got in. P.S. PD also non-singaporean
but i guess such is life, sigh
