All the hosp complains not enough mopex

I think it was very short sighted of govt to remove so many medical sch from the lists
Now junior doc labour crunch.

Dept ask for ten mos, mohh give 3.
When u convert 1 of the 3 to rp.
Next mopex, mohh give 2

Like that how to have labour??

Then now the smc so strict, so difficult to hire foreign doc.
In essence we really lack junior docs.

Hi, I am a Singaporean studying for my mbbs in Aussie now. Family wants me to go back, but I'm hearing discouraging things from my friends in Sg medicine. My particular interest in paediatrics - is it difficult for a grad for aus to get into paeds in Sg?

No it is very easy

Sg loves foreign grads. They will offer you any specialty!

Please come back to sg. We need you badly. Local sinkie grads pale in comparison to Aussie grads.

This only applies if you are ceca or FT, as the gahmen loves them very much. If you are overseas sinkie you will generally be discriminated against compared to local NUS/NTU grads, if they even offer you a job at all.

Hi!
I have been accepted to a MBBS course in Australia and if I choose to attend, I will graduate in 2025. However, although I find Medicine interesting, I wonder if it will be worth to spend at least 500k on the degree, especially if my end goal is to come back to Singapore and practice.
My main questions will be:
-Although I know I should not be going into Medicine for the pay, in this case, my parents are paying 500k for my education, so I will want to be able to at least earn decent money when/if I get back. How long will it take to say become a certified GP and how much can you earn?
- Many have mentioned in this thread that housemanship for overseas grad may not be easy to get anymore, considering our increased local med intake, and it is getting increasingly competitive. I have also read online that the full impact of LKC grads will be realized in 2023, do you think by 2025, I still stand a chance of getting PGY1 in Singapore?
- Even if I do, how will the progress from PGY1 be like? If I want to specialize, such as in OBGYN or Pediatrics for example, how hard will it be? Will I be stuck as an MO with bad working hours unable to progress for a long time? There are many comments implying that both specialty market and GP market is getting saturated, will it become worse in 5 years time??
- In private practice, hospitals, is there a good working environment? In terms of hospital politics, seniors' guidance etc.
- Lastly, how easy is it to actually make a severe mistake that can cause you to lose your medical license or affect your career progress?

I do not plan on staying on in Australia as well as they are also currently having an internship crisis from what I heard. Furthermore, I enjoy the safety and food in Singapore too much and will want to come back and settle down here. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you

As a USA/UK/AU trained Singaporean with specialist qualifications, is it easier to get a job as a Singaporean citizen or with an acquired overseas citizenship since MOHH normally favors the hiring of foreign talents? What are the pros and cons of either? Are non-Singaporean doctors entitled to an additional housing allowance which locals do not get?

Appreciate any advice, cheers.

500k is pretty reasonable.
You get accomodation, school fees and lodging

We consider a singaporean studying at lkc in singapore

Per year school fees
35K * 5 = 175k

Living expensese
1.2* 60mth = 72k

Fair value rent that would have been earned
(Ur condo room if rented out at 1.2k per month)
1.2* 60 mth = 72k

Total = 320k

So local is at least 320k, there is nothing special about ur 500k

Generally, there are many doctors who want to work in singapore.
Our pay is higher and very competitive when compared to neighbouring countries (malaysia, india, philippines, china, even uk)
As such there will also be supply from the neighbouring countries

There is also a lot of supply from returning singaporeans.
Due to this supply, the wages will be depressed as compared to australia, or us.

There will be opportunities for specialization but you have to fight it out.

Realistically speaking you will eventually be able to earn at least 6-8k per month after 3-5years of starting your work.

I suppose ur grades are pretty average. Hence did not qualify for local medical school
Even if you qualify for local medical school, you still have to fight it out.

Such is the nature of medicine in singapore
It just depends on your performance. Whether u get into local med or foreign sch or foreigners, all will be treated equally.

Fight it our, whoever the brightess, most hardworking, can endure the most pain will have a career.
